Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

Hi Matt,

It's a Sky booster to help with the signal. Not a big house, so the mini boxes are up in the bedrooms above the office where the router is and above the Sky Q box so I would expect very few issues.??

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

In advanced settings I have IP Settings (on automatic) and Wi-Fi hotspots, which is crrently off. It says this can use the Sky Q box as a hotspot to boost the 2.4ghz wi-fi covergae?? Should this be turned on?

It won't help this. If the Q box can't get a consistent signal it's not going to do a very good job as an extender

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

I had the Sky engineer with me last week, replacing my old and flaky Q box with the latest UHD model and dropping off my free mini-Q box. He commented that he was pleased to see me using a wired Ethernet connection from my nearest Deco mesh node and said "the only way to go to get a consistent and stable Internet connection". It would therefore appear that Sky is wholly aware of their failings on wifi connection.

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

I've got an ethernet cable arriving today to give it a go and see if it fixes the issue - thanks

What are you going to connect that to?

and do you have minis that are currently relying on wifi?

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

Sky Q box direct to my router.

Hoping that if I can get a stable connection ruin between the two my mini boxes will be ok over WiFi with the booster that's in place.

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

This was my take too, not a massive distance so should be ok, wrong as my router and main box are in the same room, prob about 5m apart.

I am having another spell of connectivity issues, seems there is no reason for this as such.

If the booster gets them to the same network as the Q is on via ethernet then yeah, should work and allow you to disable wifi on the main box, which is important.

Thanks for that!! I may not have thought to switch that off.

Will update this feed if it works.

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

Hi there,

I've just got my ethernet cable and connected my Main Sky Q box directly to my router with it. I have gone into netwrok setting and reset the connection to select connect via wired connection,.

You mentioned turning off the wifi function?

a) How do I do this?

b) Will my mini boxes still connect via wifi to my main Sky Q box if I do this?

Thanks

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

You have to enter the engineers menu by pressing 100 with setup highlighted then go into it and turn off 2.5 and 5ghz.

Im interested in the second bit....

As per the earlier posts, only if they can see it via the booster and its wired backhaul

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

As long as you have asked the Sky box to connect via wired, there is no need to turn off wifi.
