I'd be interested to know more details of your set up

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

A simple set up really.

Vodafone Router - Sky Q box - 2 x Mini Boxes - 2 x Booster.

Initially engineer stated the router was directly linked to one of the mini boxes, which linked tio the other, which then connected to the Sky Q box. He installed the booster, changed the setting to 2.4ghz and reconfigured them so that the Router connected to the Sky Q box which connected mto the booster, which connected to a mini box and then to the other mini box.

This 2.4ghz thing seems to be significant. Since i changed my setup and all sky products only connect to 2.4ghz we have had no disconnects for approx 2 months.

Everything else in the house connects to either 2.4 or 5ghz without issue, including smart tv's.

We also connect to netflix etc via smart tv and not skyapp, the skyapp buffered constantly.

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

No issues now. Only sky kit we have is the main skyq box and a mini.

Fibre is provided by YOUFIBRE now and is spot on. (previously Virgin)

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

Yes - but not every day. Every few days I have to turn my router off and on again because Sky is not connected to the internet, even though everything else in the house is connected just fine.

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

So, I have both 2.4 & 5 on.

Whats your dns set on the main q box?

What kind of distances are you operating at?

Have u tried no minis, then 1 mini, then perhaps 2 (switch off at mains).

Are your standby modes all set to the same, active.

Software updates correct on all boxes?

Any other equipment in house, ie range extenders etc

Any other equipment in house, ie range extenders etc - Got a booster directly above Sky Q box (upstairs) to help with Mini-boxes

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

A Sky booster or alternative? What distances are minis from wifi, and minis from main q?

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

With cabling directly completely impractical for my situation, what alternative to wi-fi is there?  Everything else that uses my wi-fi is 100% reliable so why is Sky so poor?  It really is not good enough, and Sky are very cavalier about it.  My system had been stable for a couple of weeks but has started playing up again.  The money spent by users is very significant and system stability should be rock-solid.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

Powerlines or a wifi mesh with the sky boxes hard wired into nodes.

yeah it's not good enough but there's no point whinging, it's not going to change. You either work around it or leave.
