Sky Q box (non iPlayer UHD)

I recently asked Sky to exchange my 2TB Sky Q box (UHD but not HDR) for one with UHD and HDR compatible., and I requested the latest version box.

However they sent the version box with own power supply but i understand this version doesn't do BBC iPlayer in UHD, mine certainly doesn't.

Can someone confirm this please before I contact Sky requesting a swap. .

Thanks

hi @Big+Stevie

The V2 box you have Hardware version  32B1xxx with a separate Power supply does not support the UHD version of iPlayer (we don't really know the full reason for this)

SKY do not guarantee any specific version of HDR boxes. As you don't own them then you really don't have specific levers to demand a specific version as both the V2 & V3 support the UHD/HDR which your subscription covers

From another discusion I note you have a Panasonic 4K OLED TV - quite frankly I would not hold out/push  for a SKY box that supports iPlayer when your TV has a UHD Version of iPlayer that will be better

We generally suggest using apps on the TV or other devices such as Firesticks and Apple TV boxes as these are far more likely to have better versions of the apps .

Personally I never use the apps on Q except for testing somthing

All SKY Q boxes are now several years old and many people like yourself will have newer Tech better placed for supporting the apps.

In reality SKY Q apps are just a convenience & a way of SKY trying to provide a one stop experience.

BTW I Have had a V2 box for nearly 3 years now and quite happy with it

Hi @Big+Stevie   As far as I can see there are no new 32B2xx 2 TB boxes. They have only been supplying 32B2xx 1 TB boxes for ages. You could always downgrade to 1 TB if you particularly want BBC iPlayer UHD. However, why would you want that if your TV already has it.

Re: Sky Q box (non iPlayer UHD)

Thanks, i accept that my TV does things better than the Sky box but was hoping the new box would present iPlayer in UHD.

if their latest box is only 1TB then I'll stick with what I have, but a 2TB box that does iPlayer UHD would be ideal to get full moneys worth
