Hi @Mich4F
Is the Q box well ventilated and not stacked with other devices. Is looks like it may be overheating.
If this isn't the issue
Try a Reset Settings in the Q box hidden menu.
To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Only Carry out the first Reset (Reset Settings) as the other two will wipe all recordings.
After the Reset you will have to re pair your Bluetooth remote If you use one.
If you cannot switch the Q box on with the remote after the Reset press the Standby button (Amber led) on the front of the box.
To re pair the remote press 1 & 3 together on the remote and follow onscreen instructions to re pair.
Make sure that you are pointing the remote at the Q box when you press 1 & 3 together.
Resetting the settings will also reset:
Audio visual settings, such as picture resolution and HDMI control
Settings changed within the hidden engineer menu, include LNB type. If on a communal dish you need to reset the LNB to SCR in the hidden menu. After changing the LNB type you need to reboot the Q box.

Thank you it is definitely not over heating as it's well ventilated. I have done the reset you suggested so hopefully this works. Thank you

That's the new smart standby feature. There's not much point leaving the Sky Q box on when the TV is off (it will still record etc in standby mode) but if you wish to disable this anyway, go to Settings, Setup, Preferences, set Smart Standby Mode to off.

New feature. Note that the Sky Q box is not "switching off", it is going into standby

@drummer12 as @Invisiblename say this is the new smart stanby feature introduced in the new Q250 software update if you don't want this to happen you can turn it off by doing the following
press the home button scroll down to settings then setup then preferences then smart standby and turn it off

I think there is a point in having the Q box on when the TV is off. I have just got a new Q box and everytime I switch off the TV the box goes off which I am finding very frustrating (I am going to change this thanks to these Sky community posts).
For example, if I plan to watch the news at 6pm and have the box showing BBC, and then switch off the TV as say 5.30, if the box is still on and I don't quite make it to the TV by 6 I can switch on the TV and rewind to the beginning of the News programme so I have missed nothing. Of course this applies to any programme.

Yes I'm having the same problem. Sky qbox randomly just switching off whilst watching. Has happened 4 times this week.

My sky box keeps turning off while I'm actively watching TV. Is this really caused by some software update introducing a "smart standby" feature or is it something else?

Same here. Has happened several times this evening. Before only a couple of times over the last couple of weeks. It is getting annoying.
