Well it seems to have worked for some people (I suspect because sky are scaling up and down their ad injection service and load balancer IPs are being added and removed more often than some ISPs DNS can keep up with but it's a total guess) but clearly not you. You are with YouFibre are you? Have you spoken to Sky?

Re: Sky Q and YouFibre - "Failed, Remote network problem.

There is another thread covering this. My isp Rural Broadband is trying to get Sky to recognise their Ip range to sort this out. Apparently there are 2 ad server technologies. One works and one doesn't. If you isolate service A then there is no problem. If you are directed to service B then it fails.

Re: Sky Q and YouFibre - "Failed, Remote network problem.

Is anyone still having issues with YouFibre? I had issues with it disconnecting from the WiFi and SkyQ mini box, a few times a day but it's all fixed now!

Re: Sky Q and YouFibre - "Failed, Remote network problem.

This is what I have learnt so far!

ISSUE:

Sky Q boxes constantly disconnecting from each other, the internet and dish, with no pattern, rhyme or reason, whilst using YouFibre broadband.

CAUSE:

It's lall to do with the channels that the eero hubs and youfibre work on. SkyQ mini communicates to the main Q box using 5GHz on channel 36/80 MH. Youfibre/eero devices use both 5GHz & 2.4GHz and channels somewhere between 36 & 42, meaning there is a strong possibility that it is interfering with the signal between the boxes. This can lead to the boxes disconnecting from each other and/or the internet at any time, frequency is completely random, could happen once a day, 50 times a day, every 10 seconds, you get the idea.

Other networks use channels out of this range and therefore this issue is less likely to occur.

FIX:

1. Connect both boxes directly to the youfibre box using ethernet cables, preferably Cat 6 and not through signal boosters or WiFi. This is the optimal way to keep the Q boxes connecting and working as intended.

Or

2. Connect the main SkyQ box directly to the youfibre box using an ethernet cable, and use WiFi for the mini Q. The signal needs to be strong between the Q boxes for this to work smoothly so using a Sky Booster, especially if you have solid brick walls, strengthens the signal and works well.

3. Ask sky to send you an engineer. If the boxes are losing signal and not connecting then Sky are responsible for fixing this. The engineer appointment is free and they are usually punctual and knowledgeable.

Hope this helps 😀

Tara

Re: Sky Q and YouFibre - "Failed, Remote network problem.

When I was on Sky broadband (20mbps), I had a booster between my SkyQ box and the mini box, with the two connected via a mesh network created by the main box.

However, when I moved to Community Fibre (1gbps), I turned off the mesh network and connected the mini box to my main WiFi as the signal is much stronger and considerably faster than the mesh network Sky creates between them.

However, I have to constantly reconnect the two boxes as they seem to stop talking to each other.

Any ideas about what my ideal set up should be, please? Many thanks MLS

Re: Sky Q and YouFibre - "Failed, Remote network problem.

Have you hard wired them?

@AJT23 - No, I haven't tried that, but it's impractical/unacceptable for aesthetic reasons! Thanks. MLS

No one leaves the ethernet cables visible

it's not a trivial project.

powerlines are worth considering.

@MLS11 Mini boxes won't connect to your main wifi as you have found out you need to connect the mini boxes to you main Q box this has always been the case with Sky Q mini boxes and a third party ISP over wifi

I may be a Sky Superuser but I am still just a Sky customer

Sky Q 2 TB (Silver)Box, 2 Mini boxes since June 2016, all connected by wifi
Sky Broadband Hub/SR203, Sky Ultrafast broadband
Ultimate on Demand, Q Experience/UHD, Sky Sports, Sky Cinema
LG 49SJ 810 V UHD TV, Google Pixel 7 Pro mobile

Re: Sky Q and YouFibre - "Failed, Remote network problem.

@Laing1  - I don't think that's true. My boxes are connected to each other via my normal WiFi, not the Sky mesh. However, every few days they seem to lose the connection and it needs to be reactivated.

I think they changed the settings a few months ago to allow connection to WiFi instead of the mesh. It just doesn't seem very stable. Thanks. MLS

Re: Sky Q and YouFibre - "Failed, Remote network problem.

Obviously the most optimal way is to connect both boxes to the router, however this is often impractical and can look sightly.

Your best course of action is to get a SkyQ wifi Booster Box, and place it roughly half way between your Q boxes. You can buy them from sky direct for around £60  or call out a sky engineer, this is free and if they think a Booster Box is the best solution, they will install one for free also.

I have a booster box and it works perfectly, not one disconnect since install.

Re: Sky Q and YouFibre - "Failed, Remote network problem.

Sky Q is like a petulant teenager. I spent days trying to sort it out and in the end I wired everything together and it's rock solid.

Sky boosters can work. I had 2 installed by Sky but one was placed behind a marble kitchen plinth and would not work. I had Sky visit several times. Had one visit during covid when the engineer wouldn't come in and shouted instructions to me thru a window. Happy memories.

If you are running a private mesh as well as Sky's built in mesh then sometimes they broadcast on the same band, which doesn't help. I run an Amplifi mesh and changed the sky banding.

That said, wired is the only way I'll ever use this system.

Re: Sky Q and YouFibre - "Failed, Remote network problem.

I had a Sky booster, but the speed between the boxes was very poor, which is why I changed the settings to connect the Q mini directly to my WiFi.

This works well for several days and then it loses the connection and had to be reset

I have a spare power line box, so will try that next. MLS
