Sky Q Software/Hard Disk Error
So my trusty Sky Q box of 8ish years has given up the ghost. Being an IT tech & carrying out research I knew it was possible the hard drive had finally gone.
Been iffy for a few weeks, but main issues started on Wednesday with live programs cutting out, freezing. Then couldn't change the channel without it taking 2 mins to actually change. Couldn't record anything. All the menu images not loading, managed to play a recording but that froze, then I couldn't open any recordings... at one point the box was switched onto standby yet I could still hear the news. I switched it on and off about 10 times, and then the mini box then stopped working last night too.
I had enough so factory reset the box this morning (which means losing all my recordings, this hurts & is a big problem for the autistics in the family) Live TV working but strangely 90% of my recordings are still 'showing', but they all say: "Failed. Software issue". And I do not have an option to play any of them. Checked the disk space and it's empty so they're definitely not there. I also got the "hard disk error" message when trying to set up a new recording. Which is what I expected! So, I've ordered a new box, due to come tomorrow which is quick and greatly appreciated.
Anyway, the point of this post is I just wanted to advise people as I read there was a new software update recently, which my
box has: version Q300.000.06.00L (5yzv4ns) and hope it's not a bigger issue for other customers!
Kind of disappointed if this is the case because being a customer of Sky for 16+ years now I've never really had an issue but it feels perhaps time to move on especially with the price rises and the steering away from the Q box / dishes to streaming. Not ideal when you live in an area where your bb speeds are not great.
Happy Friday 👍

Re: Sky Q Software/Hard Disk Error
Just simply a failing/failed HD. It happens...

Re: Sky Q Software/Hard Disk Error
Nope, not a bigger issue. No one in Sky accidentally included the experimental causeHardDiskFailure() function call in Q.300
😉

Re: Sky Q Software/Hard Disk Error
Had exactly the same issues with my box last year @GarySol and was of a similar age. Definitely failed hard drive. Hope your new box has arrived and you are up and running again. Had connectivity problems with my minis since I got my replacement which I've detailed on another thread. Probably have to order another replacement to either rule that in or out.

Re: Sky Q Software/Hard Disk Error
If you do need a new box remember to remove the viewing card from the faulty box before it disappears into the back of the couriers van and accept any new power cable the courier (usually DPD) deliver with the replacement box in case it's different to the one you have.
