Sky Q Replacement Box

Hello all, firstly, apologies if this has been asked previously.

I have just re contracted Sky Q and I was potentially looking to take advantage of Ultra HD as I appear to have an offer for it for a few months. I have a v1 1Tb Sky Q box from way back in 2016. Ironically, there really is a slight fault with it as the signal is dropping out more and more, but the question is, if I just order a replacement box, does anyone know if Sky are still doing like for like replacements for these older boxes, or would there be a chance of the replacement box being a later version and UHD capable?

I am hesitant to give Sky another £99 for an upgraded box but I do understand the reasoning.

Thanks in advance for any insight!

hi @matt.coomber.mc

Official policy has never changed and replacements are issued on a like for like basis.

As time goes on and stock moves around etc & no new boxes made there is a slim chance it would not be like for like but the likelyhood is, as I say, slim ,I think

Both times I had to get my Q box replaced I never got a like for like replacement. I had a v2 to begin with which was replaced by a noisy v1 which was replaced with a v3.
It's complete pot luck what box you get. I think it depends on whether Sky have properly logged the box version number you were initially sent, and whether their hardware logs are checked when replacement boxes are sent out.
I'd say it's definitely worth trying a swap if your current box is having issues. You may well get lucky and get a newer UHD capable box. You have nothing to lose, other than any recordings you have on your current box.
