We have just returned from a weeks holiday and on checking our recordings on sky Q all our recordings have disappeared and there is nothing in the schedule or deleted items folders.
We have done to full reboot of the sky Q box which has not resurrected any of the recordings.
There were a number of films and series that we were keeping on the hard drive, but we still had over 50% of the hard drive remaining before we went away.
Has there been a system upgrade in the last week which would've deleted all the recordings and if so, is there any way of recovering the recordings that we have lost? The wife, to say the least, is somewhat annoyed as a lot of it was stuff that she's been watching for a while .

No upgrades should delete recordings.
Afraid if they are no longer in the deleted folder after a reboot they have gone.
Did you have any recordings scheduled while you were away?
If so something may have gone wrong and your box recorded excessively and caused housekeeping due to max capacity.
Any buy and keep from Sky Store can be downloaded again.

Thanks @oldfella Not exactly the answer I was hoping for. I noticed I might not have been the only one affected by this. Yes there were recordings scheduled whilst we were away.

Yes @Pete-the-Archer
Some have experienced a similar issue.
However with the millions of boxes in use it is very rare.

This has just happened to me oddly enough. I have several seasons of Taskmaster saved and I was mid-way through one of the seasons, yet today when I came to continue, the whole season had vanished. All the others are still intact. I really hope this doesn't happen to older stuff I haven't watched yet and that isn't on catch up.

We have just had this happen to us today, and we had loads of recordings there full series and we also had stuff on the planner for recording and they have also disappeared, I have turned the box off and on and still no luck, we are so very annoyed about this

This seemed to happen to us over the weekend. A couple of years of valuable recordings gone. We will be cancelling sky over this, it's clearly not reliable and the cost is not worth the headache.

No system based around a single hard disk should ever be considered 'reliable'. Q has been around for eight years and is a reasonably robust system, but spinning platters do fail.
I'd also observe that while recordings may be considered 'valuable' by an individual Q user there's no right to retention of them, they have no monetary worth*, and every stored item on all the Q boxes currently in use will disappear when satellite broadcasting to the UK ceases in a few years time.
*apart from content acquired through the Sky Store, which can be download again onto a replacement box.
