@doninwales there's no logic but it seems Sky have decided if you want it (HDR box) then you have to pay. It's always been this way.
I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers

One 'logic' might just be cost: if there were (for example) a million Q Silver boxes initially manufactured, that's not a trivial hardware base to swap out 'free' and effectively write-off.
