Sky Q Booster removal

I have a Sky Q booster between the Sky  Q main unit and a mini-box but I regulalrly loose the connection between the two and have to either reset the booster or sometimes reconnect the main unit to the (BT) router.  if I were to have an ethernt connection to both the main unit and mini-box (via powerlink adapters), would I be able to remove the booster and have a fast secure connection to both boxes?

I have a second mini-box which does not have connection problems but I would also provide an ethernet connection to this one as well.  Is that OK?

Today's 80+ page thread suggests that's a widespread problem which is entirely coincidental to your earlier issue:

Hi @NPS

With 3rd party broadband providers you need to connect all boxes by Ethernet to the router.   Either directly or via simple unmanaged Ethernet switches.
When all boxes are connected by Ethernet/working Powerline you can then switch off all Q box WiFi.

Start with main Q box and first carry out a Network reset with the Ethernet connected.
Network Reset found in Q box Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Select connect wired to non Sky Router (or Sky router if on Sky Broadband). Do not carry out any WPS and just wait for the box to connect. It may take a couple of minutes. If it does not connect there is an issue with the Ethernet connection.
As soon as it connects go immediately into the Q box hidden menu and turn off WiFi.

To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Go to Network to turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit.

Repeat the network reset on any minis in the Mini Home menu with the Ethernet connected. Again do not do any WPS and just wait for it to connect.
Once it is connected go immediately into the mini hidden menu (same procedure as above) and turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit.

Re: Sky Q Booster removal

Hi,

The powerline kit eventually arrived so I could try to set up the ethernet connections.  Your guidance was spot on but I had couple of observations that may help others planning to do the same change.

Firstly, when I was moving the main Sky Q box to a wired, the connection appeared as a name that looked rather like a SSID.  I was a little unsure if I was really only using a wiired connection but when I checked and confirmed that the wifi was in fact disabled and the same reference appeared on the mini boxes, it was sort of abvious that some reference was needed to describe the new Sky network using a wired connection.

Secondly I was not able to disable the wifi once I had got the mini boxes onto a wired connection.  Each time I tried the using the hidden menu it always reverted to wifi enabled.  The system seemed to work OK despite this but mindful of your guidance I ended up resetting the mini boxes.  They then smoothly joined the wired network and I was then able to disable the wifi options.

Re: Sky Q Booster removal

I sincerely hope you (someone) can help as I have had a very frustrating evening.   Yesterday everything worked fine but today both mini boxes say they have no satellite signal and will not display the picture, TV menu or any recordings.  I have tried multiple times going through the steps given in the earlier reply but without any improvement.

The main Sky Q box shows that the both wifi channels are disabled in the hidden menu and that there is a wired connection to the internet (with a Sky network number).  It also shows ticks menu against watch on Sky Go and watch on Sky mini box.

The mini boxes also connect to the internet and I can watch Apps on them so the ethernet connection looks to be OK and I have connected other non-Sky devices to make sure .  The wired connection network number is however different to the one shown on the main Sky Q box - sometimes it is a Sky reference number and sometimes the name of the old wifi connection which has been switched off and is no longer available for internet connections (i..e it is no longer discoverable).  Whatever network name is displayed, the mini boxes continue to show they are connected to the main Sky Q box.

The 2.4/5 GHz wifi options are generally disabled but somtimes switch themselves back on - without seeming to make any difference.

I have done a reset / power off of the mini boxes I have also done a reconnect to the Sky Q box even though it was always shown to be connected.  I have also tried doing reconnect to mini boxes from the main Sky Q box.

I am now at a complete loss to understand what is going on and what I need to do to get the mini boxes to work properly so any help would be grately appreciated.

Re: Sky Q Booster removal

Brilliant - thank you so much.  Powering off the main Sky Q box then the mini boxes sorted the problem - I can now go to bed without worrying about what I had done wrong.
