Sky Q 1tb

Hi,

So I upgraded to a Sky Q 1tb box a few years ago, they told me that I had to have it to use the UHD part of my bill.

Now the hard drive is broken and they've said they can send me a replacement, but I was wanting to move to the Sky Stream thing and was wondering had anyone else done this, and did you get any money back for the upgrade paid?

Thanks

Dave

All hardware is owned by Sky and has to be returned if you cancel/change platform.  There are no refunds for any admin charges.

Note that moving to Sky Stream is a one-way trip. Who told you it [the move from Sky Q to Sky Stream] was an "upgrade"? [EDIT: I misunderstood which upgrade was being questioned!]

Re: Sky Q 1tb

It wasn't an admin charge, it was an 'upgrade' charge to go from a normal sky q, to one that was capable of UHD.

Ah right thanks, yes that makes sense. I don't believe that would be refundable but happy to be corrected.

I bought an UHD tv and was told to use the UHD part of Sky, I needed to upgrade my box to a Sky Q 1tb that was capable of showing UHD. This was from a customer service person. I paid £99 for it.

Thanks, still don't know whether to keep the Sky Q and get a replacement sent to see if that fixes the issue.

It was an (non-refundable) admin charge.

As you do not own the hardware you cannot pay to upgrade it.  You can only pay the admin charge to cover swapping the hardware version.

If the HD is goosed then any replacement is going to fix the issue. Don't forget to take your viewing card out of the box as they do a doorstep swap, also take the power cable/power supply to the door as V2 models use an external power supply V3 models use a figure of 8 power cable as the power supply is internal. Just make sure you're retaining or getting the correct replacement.

As far as the £99 charge you paid, no, there's no chance of getting that back.

hi @Davee

Whilst the failure of your existing box may have caused you to consider a switch, initially it may be better to just get the replacement box   and think longer term regarding your needs.

Do your research on SKY Stream as it is a different product with no local recording & uses Playlists rather than recordings & makes more use of the Apps for catch up etc & , of course, being streaming  only, relies on a stable good enough internet connection.

Getting the replacement SKY Q box does not cost you anything - just make sure you take out the viewing card before handing over the faulty box

As the others have said the upgrade fee from the older  non-uhd 1TB to a UHD box is non refundable
