Sky Mini Box

The mini box whoch has been upstairs in a bedroom for some time, all of a sudden does not take instruction from the original remote or the remote for the main unit downstairs.

Even have to switch it on by phyisically pressing the button on the unit, where as before it could have been done by the remote.

 

Has anyone had this before, what was the fix?

Thank you for the help everyone. Finally managed to speak to someoneat Sky in India, who has confirmed the a new remote will be sent out.

 

hopefully this will conclude the challange.

Assuming you have changed the batteries, you will need to reset then re-pair the remote to the box. Instructions here: https://www.sky.com/help/articles/fix-remote 

 

Or basically:

 

Hold down 7 and 9 until the remote's light flashes 4 times to factory reset your remote.

 

Then you need to pair it again:

 

  1. Hold down 1 and 3 together
  2. Select Continue and enter the brand of your TV
  3. Select Find it for me

Press the volume buttons on your Sky Q remote and see if this changes to volume on your TV. No luck? Select No, try another until you find the right setting.

 

Once you can change the volume using your Sky Q remote, finish the pairing process:

 

  1. If you have a Sky Soundbox or speaker, select Yes and follow the instructions.
  2. Don't have a Soundbox or speaker? Select No then select Finish.

Yes got that, found it on the web site. Does not seem to work, no LED flashing on remote when pressing 7 & 9 together. So did not get very far.

Tried to find a phone number to get to speak to an engineer, but sems more chance of finding a unicorn.

 

Any further ideas?

Yes, at the end of the self help flow I linked to you just say you still need help and then sign in to order a replacement remote. No engineer, phone calls or unicorns required.

I’m not sure if this replacement remote service is available to customers in the Republic of Ireland if you're based there.

 

It may be quicker to purchase a new remote from a retailer / larger supermarket. If you do that as well as the above you’ll have a spare.

In the meantime if you have an Apple device with Sky Go you can possibly set up a virtual remote to control your Sky Q box. See this link which may help
