I thought at first my box TV guide was not updated, but I checked the online TV guide and correct, lots of movies replaced or cancelled. At first I thought maybe its a 'sensitivity' issue like movies on certain theme removed due to some news event I had not heard about yet or a disgraced actor in it or something. But its affected a wide range of stuff. Like someone connected the wrong schedule to the system.

@daveNOS wrote:@LO11 & @Chris714 & @Kev120 Which channels and movies are you all watching when this is happening as i don't get that issue with any Sky Cinema channels.
Edit.I should add im using NowTV so it may be platform specific.
To my knowledge adverts are not present on live broadcast once the film has started on channels 301-311 this is on satellite
on demand versions may be different

I've been in touch with sky helpline, who are suggesting services to sky+ boxes have been stopped and that I upgrade to sky q. Anyone else heard this?

Hi hivemind. I've not watched a film on the movie channel for a while, so decided to watch a film today only to have over 30 minutes of adverts during the film.
Sky Cinema-brand channels* do not have advertising during the runtime of a movie.
The non-Sky channels which are dedicated to showing movies do run adverts because they have no income from a Sky Cinema subscription: nothing new there.
Those would be Film4, Movies24 and Great!
* Sky Cinema channels are:
Sky Action
Sky Animation
Sky Comedy
Sky Drama
Sky Family
Sky Greats
Sky Hits
Sky Premiere
Sky Sci-Fi Horror
Sky Select
Sky Thriller

I've read about ad skip, but I'm not paying for a money grabbing scheme so I can watch a film uninterrupted.
Ad Skipping is a feature on Glass & Stream, and only applies to on-demand content.

Watched dune 2 then went over to inception, adverts started on both after a short while, also noticed that some of the films advertised on the schedule, eg I am legend and gods of Egypt were not the films being played

Other posts suggest there's currently an operational glitch in Sky Cinema delivery.
