Signal issue with Sky mini box

Hi all,

I have a Mini Box and the signal keeps freezing every few seconds.  It's actually been like this for several months now but it's taken me a while to act on it.  Has anyone experienced similar issues?  I can switch it on fine but the signal keeps breaking up and the picture freezes.  If I watch something on record, I'm unable to fast forward as the picture gets stuck on the current time.

I think I probably need a new box as the signal on my main Sky Q box is fine.

Thanks

Hi @bob21493

First try rebooting the main Q box and then when this is completely back up and running reboot the mini.
To reboot press Standby on your Sky Q remote (if the box responds to the remote), and then switch off and unplug at the mains.
Wait at least 30 secs and then Plug back in and switch your Sky Q box back on at the mains.
Wait for the on screen instructions to disappear and the front led to turn Amber. Then wait for 30 secs before you press Home on your Sky Q remote or if this is not working press the standby button on the front of the Q box (Amber led)

note: some features may take up to 5 minutes to return.

Reboot the mini as above.
If the mini still does not connect reliably try a Network Reset on the mini.
Network Reset found in mini Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Follow instructions to WPS with main Q box.
You will be asked to press the WPS button on the main Q box (not the mini).

If you are on Sky Broadband and the Router is nearer to the mini than the main box then you can try pressing WPS on the router instead of the main Q box

hi @bob21493

There are a few things that may be affecting the signal on the mini box - it is not that likely that it is faulty.

I am guessing it is connected via wifi rather than ethernet.

If your home wifi is not SKY then you need to be aware it does not use your home wifi but instead a wifi signal generated by the main box.

The mini box depends on the main box for virtually everthing so the first this I would sugget is a power down restart of the main box:

So the first thing is to restart your main SKY Q box :

Use the remote to place it into standby mode

Then remove the power to it (either switch off at mains or remove the power plug)

 Wait at least 30s

Then re-apply the power & wait for it to fully restart - this may take a few minutes.

Once the main box is restarted do the same power down on the mini box

After that maybe consider seeing if anything could be interfering with the wifi signal to it (I believe Landline wirelsss phones can be a cause of some interference for example).

When I first got my mini box installed I had regular problems in the evenings - moving the mini box by about a foot & turning off wifi on a AV Amp it was very near cured my problems
