I currently have sky hd. I have 2 boxes, one in my living room and one in my mothers annexe. This is perfect for us as I can record what I want on my box and she can record what she wants on her box. She's 90 and OK with technology but does get in a mess sometimes!! With the current set up she can only see what she has recorded, so she can watch and delete without affecting anything I record - and vice Versa. Sky keep pushing me towards sky Q, but as I understand it I would lose this important separation I have using the 2 boxes as I would have the main box and she would have a mini box, but all recordings would be on the main box, so her recordings and mine would all be mixed together, which I think would be very confusing for her and lead to all sorts of issues. Can anyone give me more info about how the Q and mini box work together and would it work for me as the two had boxes do? Someone at sky customer service was trying to tell me I can control who sees what in the settings, but to be honest it didn't make much sense to me.

Afraid there are no profiles for recordings on Sky Q.
Main Q box stores all recordings (no hard drive inQ mini boxes).
Therefore all recordings can be seen by all boxes.
Only exception is Ultra HD (UHD) which is not available on mini boxes.

@Rogerthelodger I would advise that you keep your Sky HD boxes
as @oldfella says there are no profiles so your mothers recordings and yours would be mixed up
I may be a Sky Superuser but I am still just a Sky customer
Sky Q 2 TB (Silver)Box, 2 Mini boxes since June 2016, all connected by wifi
Sky Broadband Hub/SR203, Sky Ultrafast broadband
Ultimate on Demand, Q Experience/UHD, Sky Sports, Sky Cinema
LG 49SJ 810 V UHD TV, Google Pixel 7 Pro mobile

@oldfella has fully answered your specific query but I just thought I would chip in to say you are right you cannot control whatever anyone else watches.
All recordings are available to all and the 'last position' marker is set by the person who last watched.
As you may have gathered we don't really the Q setup will work for you and your Mother as you would wish .
Either way you also may wish to see some notes I have put together for people considering moving from SKY HD to Q (which includes the above)

Thanks to everyone for your replies - it reinforces exactly what I understood was the situation. Clearly customer services don't really understand how it works!!
