SKY Q box wont retain internet connection
Over the last three months my Sky Q Box has lost internet connection with my BT router, and I had to keep resetting the network. However, on the 9th November it went completely and none of the mini boxes would connect either. I have tried all the suggested fixes and nothing works. I re-enter the network password and it connects, but 5 minutes later has lost connection again. I asked BT to check the broadband, they identified an issue which they fixed (on the 22/11) but the connection problem still exists. This is now week 3 with no sky mini boxes working. BT said they could arrange for a SKY engineer to come out, but I haven't heard anything.

Hi @PB3012 Try rebooting your router by removing the power cable for 30 sec then reconnect to reboot, then reboot your main SKYQ box by turning the power off at the socket for 30 sec then turn back on, do the same with any Mini boxes?
I used to have superpowers… But a therapist took them away.

Re: SKY Q box wont retain internet connection
Hi, tried all that. Main box stayed connected for about 45 seconds. Mini boxes still saying "not able to connect to the activation server" or another mini box won't even switch on now

Re: SKY Q box wont retain internet connection
So I've been having the same problem especially over the last couple of days when both my Main Sky Q and Sky Q mini boxes wont keep there connection to the internet.
After a couple of days messing around I've come to the conclusion that it was my Meross Smart plus which for some reason kept being registered with the same IP address as one or more of the Sky Q, Sky Q mini or Sky Booster box.
The solution requires a small amount of IT knowhow but there's plenty of online stuff on how to do all of this. If you're not confident playing about with router settings I'd advise that you don't try this as you could stop other devices from working properly.
In my case it's smart plus which were the problem but it could be any device which you can't set the IP address of manually.
Firstly remove and smart plugs and plug everything back in without the smart plugs.
Now login to your router and find the screen which shows all of your 'Attached Devices'. Write down which IP Addresses are being used and which aren't. You'll need to keep an up to date written log of which device is on which IP address to make sure all devices have a unique IP address. Wait until all the smart plug entries disappear. This might take a few minutes.
Now go into any smart TV, Blu-ray Player, Streaming box etc and if it has the option to set a manual IP address do so, making sure you use either it's current IP address or a free one. Update your written log.
You might find it convenient to group items in a specific room with similar IP addresses e.g. everything in the living room has IP addresses 192.168.1.2x (TV is 1912.168.1.20, Blu-ray is 192.168.1.21, streaming box is 192.168.1.22 etc).
You'll need to wait a few minutes for everything to filter through and update in your router list. Make sure all the numbers in the router list match what you think you've set before continuing.
Now find the IP address of your Sky Q devices and make a note of them. There's a number of posts on how to do this.
Now find out how to 'Reserve IP Adresses' on your particular router. It will be in the Advanced Sections somewhere. Find your Sky Box/es and reserve their IP addresses. You'll need to enter the MAC address of your device but all that information should be on the router screen.
When you've done this it might be an idea to reboot your router and make sure all your Sky Boxes are working. You might need to follow the onscreen message for reconnecting your boxes.
I'd give it a while to make sure they all stay connected.
When your happy it's all ok. plug one of the smart plugs back in. You can't usually set their IP addresses manually. So login to your router again. Make sure the smart plug isn't trying to use the same IP address as another device. If it is, use the 'Reserve IP address' to force the smart plug to use an IP address which isn't in use. If it's OK use the 'Reserve IP address' and use the IP address it's currently assigned to. Update your written log.
Repeat until all of the plugs have been put back.
By reserving the IP addresses you should be able to stop multiple devices being given the same IP address which was what was stopping my Sky boxes from working.
Hopefully you wont have further problems.

Re: SKY Q box wont retain internet connection
I've had this problem for 3 years now, turn sky q on in the morning and no Internet. Reboot sky box and router, zero effect. Re- enter password, usually connects . Watch TV for a while turn off, switch on again later, no Internet. Can happen 2 or 3 times a day then no problem for a month or so. 2 Tv sets, 2 tablets, smartphone and laptop never lose password. Only conclusion, Sky q is a load of **bleep**, but at least I know the password off by heart
