Q to stream

I am currently having issues with my Sky Q setup, which Sky seem unwilling or unable to fix. Currently awaiting a response to a complaint.

Anyhow, looking at pricing for Stream, it appears much cheaper than relatively the same options for my SkyQ setup, and I was wondering if the issues cannot be fixed, would stream be an alternative. We do use the record feature of Q, but we 'could' do without if needed. My current setup is as follows.

Main Q box with main TV, connected directly to router via Ethernet

Mini box upstairs connected to main box with Sky 5Ghz Mesh.

Current ISP is Plusnet, with an 80/20 connection on FTTC. FTTP currently not available where I live.  Speedtests routinely deliver 70+Mbps.

So im just asking for advice as to if stream would be an alternative to Q and can anyone see any issues with my setup if I switched?

Also if I found I didnt like stream, is reverting back to Q an option?

Thanks for any advice.....

Depends on the nature of your issues with Q: if they relate to reliability over WiFi then that raises concerns for Stream.

Yes, Sky permits that, although not necessarily seamlessly and you'd potentially lose any current discounts.

If you are getting reliable 70Mbps speeds, you should be ok.
But, of course depends on how busy your household uses up the overall local network bandwidth of that 70Mbps.
It works fine on wifi, but I have Sky broadband Ultrafast+ (500Mbps) and getting 250-330Mbps to my wifi puck. I have one box on wifi and one on ethernet wihout issue.

Doing some recent tests I found this;
HD = Watching any live TV, On demand or cloud recordings - 6-7 Mbps per puck.
UHD = Watching any live TV, On demand or cloud recordings - 11-12Mbps per puck.

Have a read of my Sky Q to Sky Stream journey over last month, where I have posted initially on the move and later in the thread on the progress;

Re: Q to stream

Thanks for the replys. My issues as, far as I am aware are not related to wireless. It's mainly pixillation on the minibox, downloads continually failing with remote network errors and random blocks of colour on the main box home screen. I feel the main box is failing but sky don't appear to want to know. Anyhow, read your informative post on stream, and it appears may be a good option given my limited needs to 2 boxes rather like yours. Unfortunately higher speeds are not currently possible in my area as FTTP is not available. I'll see how sky respond to my formal letter, but it looks like an option.
