None of the programmes Whether live or recorded play properly it's like old school buffering

That's annoying.

 

Sometimes the simplest first step is just to power off the box at the mains for a good 10 minutes (literally pull the power plug).

 

After that it is worth trying a software update to make sure you are on the latest version: https://www.sky.com/help/articles/updating-sky-box-software-sky-q 

 

Lastly, if that doesn't do the trick, I would get in touch with Sky as your box may have a fault.
