Problem with SkyQ Mini and Boosters since changing internet provider

We have recently swirched from Sky Broadband to a different provider and our SkyQ setup at home has stopped working as it should. Our current setup is this:

SkyQ main box>Booster>Ethernet>SkyQ Mini

The SkyQ mini is too far away from the main box to work wirelessly so we have a booster in the living room which is connected via ethernet to the mini. As of this morning when our Sky broadband was stopped, the mini has now stopped working.

The main box is set up to use the new broadband from the routers and is working happily, however when I try to set the mini up to connect to the routers in that location it only offers WPS setup which is too far from the main box to work and there is no option to enter the new WiFi manually by SSID etc.

I can use the WPS on the mini to reconnect via ethernet to the booster in the room with the main box, however it is then saying it is connected to the old Sky SSID which was disconnected this morning. Therefore, the mini box now has no functionality.

The only other thing I've tried is connecting the booster in the room with the main back to the main box via WPS but they don't seem to want to pair with each other.

What is the fix for this please?

Re: Problem with SkyQ Mini and Boosters since changing internet provider

I have managed to resolve the issue, and seeing as 'oldfella' appears to have run out of copy & paste replies I'll describe it here in case it ever helps somebody else.

The Problem:

Because the SkyQ booster was connected to the Q mini via ethernet, any attempts to use WPS meant that the booster would only attempt to pair with the Q mini and NOT the main box.

The Solution:

You need to make the booster forget that the Q mini exists in order for it to pair again with the main box.

Step 1: Unplug the ethernet cable from the back of the booster
Step 2: Hold the reset button on the back of the booster until the power light flashes green
Step 3: Wait until the 'Power' and 'Wireless' lights on the booster are illuminated
Step 4: Hold the WPS button on the booster until it flashes orange
Step 5: Do the same on the main box and wait until the two devices pair with each other
Step 6: Reconnect the ethernet cable to the back of the booster
Step 7: On the Q mini, enter the settings menu and reactivate the box and wait for the reset process to complete

If you follow this then you should have a working Q mini again.

Hi @shelleyegan

Firstly, minis, if using WiFi will only connect to Sky Q mesh WiFi generated by Q devices.  You must use WPS to connect.

Provided you have Sky Q boosters (minis will not connect to 3rd party ones) try the following.

If your main Q box is successfully connected to your  router then you can use the Q booster located between your main Q box and the mini.

Assuming the main Q box is connected correctly you need to set up the Q booster as follows.

Position the booster approx midway between the main Q box and the mini.

  1. Hold the WPS button on your booster for 3 seconds until it flashes amber. Then hold the WPS button on the front of your main Q box for 3 seconds until it flashes amber - You'll need to do it within 2 minutes.
  2. After a few minutes, the connected light on the booster should  turn green. You're all set up.

Tip: Need to move your booster after you've connected, don't worry it will automatically reconnect when its moved as long as its within range of your main Q box.

Then carry out a Network Reset on the mini.

Network Reset found in mini Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Follow instructions to WPS with Q device,
You will be asked to press the WPS button on the Q booster box (not the mini as the Network reset will start the mini WPS automatically).

Appreciate your advice, but I mentioned in my original post that the WPS between the main box and the booster won't connect.

Exactly what are you doing when you try to connect the  booster @shelleyegan

Holding the WPS button on the front of the booster until it flashes orange, then doing the same on the main box (approx 7ft away), then waiting. The process eventually times out.
