I called sky a few days ago ..twice and asked to upgrade my 2tb old box to a HDR box. The first call was answered with "it will be £100 to upgrade" no room for a deal! The second call found a polite response saying the HDR boxes had been issued free on request until September. I was told to wait to see if this offer would be reinstated in the near future otherwise it was £100. Really..!! VIP platinum member doesn't mean a thing!!'

hi @Weathers
If you haven't read it, I refer you to my notes re charges that I made in post #2

Hi Nige..yes I have read your post..I am currently watching uhd content and was happy to self install!! No option to resolve by sky or offer!!! Apparently giving them away free until September then straight £100 upgrade. The very polite sky advisor was understanding but said that the 2023 deal which I was unaware of had ended. She gave the advice to wait to see what happens in the future. I'm not paying £100 for something which was free 3 weeks ago!! Rubbish👍🏼

hmm strange - but we don't know what SKY will offer - just what we hear on here.
I had not specifically heard that they were not doing Self install deals & I admit I have never heard of them offering the upgrade for free
I do wonder if you would get a different story from a different adviser - but I know calling can be a bit of a nightmare - unfortunately no online options to upgrade online for over 2 years now since the shortage of 2TB HDR boxes that lasted a few months

Thanks Nige...and that is exactly what is fuelling my disgruntlement!! Every time you phone you get different messages!!! No consistency other than on this occasion the price!! I have a 2tb Q box and actually want a 1tb HDR box!! I subscribe to quite a bit...but just because I didnt phone at a particular time I can't get something which should be rolled out to all UHD sport/cinema subscribers free of charge!!! The advisor even said that sky was handing them out to get people to make use of the tech I guess also so that they subscribe to more!!! Only my opinion but never seem to get anything to sweeten us for the continued subscription and support and for some of us for over 20 years!!!

Hi
I have made an identical request today to upgrade my sky q 2tb box to receive hdr broadcasts and have been given the exact same reply. Sky will run a free to replace sky box on the new year but no date was available. I am also a sky vip platinum member. My feelings...... disgusting

Just for info I tried to get my 1TB SkyQ box upgraded to the 2TB HDR version in July, August, October and November and at no point was I offered a "free" box or a self install option. This would seem to contradict what you were told about there being an offer through until September.
I said I was happy to make a contribution towards the cost but not pay £100 for something that remains their property. I was then told the £100 is actually for an engineer visit but what are they going to do that I can't - unplug four cables (inc Ethernet) swap boxes over, switch cards and activate. Hardly rocket science!
I have been with Sky for 21 years and have already said I won't be renewing my contract for this sole reason. My current box has issues where it freezes, apps bomb out and it just goes unresponsive but they would rather take time listening to me moan than actually resolve the issue. So frustrating and disapointing!

@-SeanR- Sky have always charged a fee to upgrade from a 1TB non UHD/HDR or a 2TB non HDR box to a HDR box and their polucy was alway if a box was faulty they would swap it out for a like for like box unless they could not supply the same box.
I personally would have thought that if Sky were going to upgrade the boxes for free then the offer would have been in the black Friday deals

I am a Sky VIP customer with a 14.5 year old Sky HD box and a subscription to Sky Sports and Cinema with HD add-ons.
I have just upgraded my TV from HD to 4K and called Sky to upgrade to Sky Q.
They offered me the 1TB 4K HDR box for free and the first two months of Sky Sports 4K and Movies 4K for free.
After the first two months, I will be paying an extra £4 a month for the 4K channels.
I am delighted.

We upgraded at the beginning of December it is only now that I am beginning wonder if the skyq 1tb box is any better than my old sky hd one. I just assumed that I would be able to watch in UHD. We have a4k tv. Could you please explain to me why if the box is compatible i cant seem to fund any UHD content, shouldn’t the football
just automatically be shown in UHD? I’m totally confused as to what I have subscribed to.

Have you also subscribed to the HD and UHD add-ons?

I just assumed that it would have UHD, I shall have to go to my account and look. I mean why would you want to down grade? Every time I change my services it creates hassle, that I don’t need.

Not everyone with SKy Q UHD boxes wish to pay the extra for UHD and even HD
Unless you specifically requested the UHD add on it is quite likely that you do not have it.
BTW if you upgraded from SKY HD to SKY Q it is not guaranteed that you have a UHD box - the original 1TB boxes were non UHD and often are issued to people as part of a free or subsidised upgrade.
Please may I suggest you also double check your box
Home - Settings - System Info - Hardware Version
If it is 32Cxxx then you have an older 1TB non-UHD Box
If it is 32B2xxx then you have a (V3) UHD HDR 1TB (also denotes a 2TB Box V3 box)
