No signal with new hdmi cables

Have installed 4 new HDMI cables that are now plastered behind wall and not accessible for wall mounted TV. Cables have connected to Apple TV, and Blueray, all working fine, but unable to keep a signal from sky q. Have tried all four cables with sky box and none work.  Any ideas apart from running a new HDMI cable outside house and back in behind TV on wall.

How long are the cables?

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers

Re: No signal with new hdmi cables

I think the electrician said they were 10 meters. They are alot longer than what we really needed so excess is coiled up.

Signal speed degrades on HDMI cables longer than about 4 metres. If your Q box is set to output 2160P for UHD then it's not going to be fast enough. You'd need expensive optical HDMI cables at that length.
Try setting your Q box to 1080i and see if that'll work.

hi @Ange2023

We generally only recommend  a maximum length of around 3m for 4K (possibly 5m at a push with very high grade cables)

Ordinary blu-ray players are only HD not 4K & I suspect the Apple TV is not being used at 4K - I presume you don't have access to a UHD player to test the cables.

Although I think there are some newer cables that can be used for longer lengths for 4K ,  to be reliable at 4K  for longer lengths  you  are likely to need more expensive fibre HDMI cables

Re: No signal with new hdmi cables

They are coming back out on Monday so will give that ago. If that doesn't work looks like more holes and running a better quality cable outside.

Re: No signal with new hdmi cables

Thanks for all of the information. Just wish I had tried this board before the work was done!! Can HDMI cable be run outdoors?  Or is too delicate. Or is there a special cable for outdoor use.

You can get special HDMI cables which are shielded & weather proof for outdoor use.
Something like this would allow 4K HDR signals to be sent over long distance:

Re: No signal with new hdmi cables

Still working my way through the world of cables. Who thought they were so complicated. Speaking to tech guy at cable supplier and he has asked me to make sure sky box has enough power at source to send 4k signal over AOC 10m cable.  Thought I would ask the question here first. Any ideas?

thanks again
