New sky q box problem

Hi. I've just received a new sky q box because my other box was faulty. Everything set up fine but I'm noticing on live tv the screen goes blank for a split second then goes back on again. Never happened with my old box. Any ideas as too why as it's really annoying?

Hi @Alan170980

Assume you have tried a different HDMI lead?

Have you tried rebooting your Q box?
To reboot press Standby on your Sky Q remote (if the box responds to the remote), and then switch off and unplug at the mains.
Wait at least 30 secs and then Plug back in and switch your Sky Q box back on at the mains.
Wait for the on screen instructions to disappear and the front led to turn Amber. Then wait for 30 secs before you press Home on your Sky Q remote or if this is not working press the standby button on the front of the Q box (Amber led)

note: some features may take up to 5 minutes to return.

Re: New sky q box problem

Hi. Yes I did try and that and no change. It's seemed OK until I downloaded some programmes that I lost from the old box. Not sure if that might be the problem?

Hi @Alan170980

Try a Reset Settings in the Q box hidden menu.
To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Only Carry out the first Reset (Reset Settings) as the other two will wipe all recordings.
After the Reset you will have to re pair your Bluetooth remote If you use one.
If you cannot switch the Q box on with the remote after the Reset press the Standby button (Amber led) on the front of the box.
To re pair the remote press 1 & 3 together on the remote and follow onscreen instructions to re pair.

Make sure that you are pointing the remote at the Q box when you press 1 & 3 together.

Resetting the settings will also reset:

Audio visual settings, such as picture resolution and HDMI control
Settings changed within the hidden engineer menu, include LNB type. If on a communal dish you need to reset the LNB to SCR in the hidden menu. After changing the LNB type you need to reboot the Q box.

Re: New sky q box problem

Hi,

The problems seems to have helped after doing what you said but now it's started up again. Surely a brand new box wouldn't have these issues. I take it best thing to do now is phone sky. Does anyone know of any way of sending a video of the problem to sky so the technical people can look at it?.

Thanks for your help.

Most boxes are likely to be refurbished nowadays and not 'new'.  I suspect they won't be interested in a video and will just swap the box again...

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers

Re: New sky q box problem

That's true. It might be my tv but don't think it is. Never had this problem before. My old box broke but only couldn't get recordings etc and didn't have the screen going off for a split second every minute or so. I'll call them tomorrow and see what they say. Thanks

Try at a lower res (1080p for example) and if it doesn't happen then, I would suspect the cable

Re: New sky q box problem

I tried different resolution and did it on all of them. I've tried a different hdmi cable and still does it. Doesn't do it though if I use PlayStation or just watch normal tv. Surely it has to be the sky box

Some owner's of LG G4 tv's are experiencing this issue with SkyQ at the moment. I don't suppose yours is that model?

Re: New sky q box problem

That's interesting. It's not that model but it is a LG tv. It's lg44uf779v. It is 10 years old but I did try using the tv on its own and worked along with my gaming device. My dvd player worked fine also so I don't think it can be the tv. My mini box upstairs works fine also. Before my previous box broke on Friday I never had this problem, just couldn't access my recordings etc so they said the hard drive was broken.
