New channels??

I have seen a report today that Sky are launching new channels but for "Sky Glass/Stream only".

Is it true and why 7s SkyQ getting left behind?

Because Q is a ten year old product from before the Comcast Corporation acquired Sky Group, and probably has around four years left until satellite broadcasting to the UK and RoI ceases entirely.

The cost of media distribution over an orbital link is significantly higher than going online, and as advertising revenue is continually reducing there's very little chance of new channels arriving in a broadcast EPG.

Re: New channels??

@SimonJersey Yes it's true.

Are Q being left behind? There are channels on Q that aren't available on Stream/Glass. Swings and roundabouts really.

hi @SimonJersey

I believe these are just adding the 'FAST' channels  available via the Xumo Play app as numbered channels on Glass & Stream rather having to go via the app.

I think you can access them via the Xumo Play app on SKY Q

Note: It is extremely unlikely that any new channels will launch via Satellite and are now only likely to launch via internet Streaming only (Satellite TV in the UK  likely to end when the current Satellites at 28.2E run out of fuel towards the end of the decade)

Re: New channels??

That all sounds a bit disappointing for those of us in Channel Islands. Treated as UK eventhough we aren't.  Can't use other Sky products like broadband as they're not available here

Sky Stream isn't limited to Sky Broadband.

Re: New channels??

Yes, I realise but we use record all the time which stream doesn't have if I understand it correctly.

Correct. Sky Stream doesn't record in the traditional sense.

Hard drive recording will likely die out along with the satellite and terrestrial broadcast services as streaming takes over.

It's worth trying to get used to life without recording. You may be surprised how quickly you adapt to setting your own viewing schedule and watching everything you want on demand without having to remember to set series links or individual recordings and managing disk space.

It took us a matter of weeks to fully get used to not having a hard drive recorder of any kind under the TV. We don't miss it at all.
