Mute button on Sky Q Remote - Genuine fault!
I recently had a problem with two IR remotes which (strangely!) both started playing up at the same time. Both seemed to have gone "intermittent" in their ability to control their respective Q box, whilst retaining their ability to control their respective TVs. After much research and experimentation, I reluctantly decided that - however coincidental it may seem - both had failed in the same way at the same time. So I bought two new ones, which promptly "failed" in exactly the same way as the originals!!
Now, it turns out, I was wrong. The fact is that all four remotes have an unpublicised "hidden" feature (or maybe an unintended feature of Sky Q software?). This is that, once programmed to control a particular TV, they ALL respond to hitting the MUTE button by inhibiting the remote from performing its main function, ie controlling the Sky Q box! This means you can't mute the TV, then flick through the Sky channels, which is something I do a lot. Hitting the MUTE button again restores functionality at the expense of having to hear the audio. I have tested this on all four of my (Infrared only) Sky Q remotes and all behave in the same way, switching Q control on and off by using the mute button. This in itself is quite odd, but the other strange thing is that it's only been happening in the last few days or maybe a week or two, whereas I have been using my original IR remotes for some years without any problems at all.
Maybe some knowledgeable Sky person can tell me why this has happened??? And will it be fixed...?

Shame you didn't get any replies. I've just reset my Sky Q remote after it failed and it works for everything (scrolling, etc) except mute, volume and on/off.

Never saw this at the time. Never used the mute button but that is really weird. Wonder why and whether it still happens.
For the more recent problem, sounds (no pun intended) like it's just using the wrong IR codes for your TV or audio system.

Hi @Eric+D That means you have not successfully paired the remote to your Sky Q box and TV. Point the remote at the Sky Q box and hold down buttons 1 & 3 then follow the instructions on screen. The reset deleted the pairing.
