Mini boxes not playing recordings

For the last day or so both of my mini boxes won't properly play recordings. The fast forward skips and jumps back and I can't get the play/pause buttons to do anything. I've reset main box and router and also reset the main box router connection. Anyone got any ideas? I've not seen this before. The main box is working fine so this suggests to me the mini boxes are not talking to the main box properly.

Update, I left both mini boxes in standby overnight and both now seem to be fully functioning again. No idea what caused that glitch
