Mini box connected to neighbours main box but to my Wifi

Hi,

I am experiencing a problem where by my mini box has connected to our neighbours main box but is connected to our Wi-Fi. Spoken with Sky and it looks like our neighbours main box is on our Wi-Fi is there anyway of us being able to remove thier box from our network?

I would say that it is almost impossible to connect your neighbours Sky Q mini box to your main box/ wifi.

It is equally impossible for your mini to be connected to their main Q box.

If their mini box is connected to their main box there would be no reason for their mini to also be on your wifi network. Not could yours be connected to their main box.

What makes you think this has happened other than what Sky have said?

Re: Mini box connected to neighbours main box but to my Wifi

From the discussions with Sky it's our neighbours main box which has connected to our WiFi, and our mini box has connected to our neighbours main box not ours. We can see all their recordings on their box but not ours also our mini box is showing a different viewing card number.

Your neighbours box can only connect to your WiFi if they have the password (or there's no password) - possibly via WPS if the button was pressed at the time they scanned.  (Mini's will connect to the Q box on the same subnet)

Options include:

Changing your routers password (Best idea)

Asking them to reset their network connection on their Q box

We have tried resetting the password, but when you go through setting up the box to the WIFI it doesn't ask for a password so hasn't worked.

Ok, I suggest you post in the broadband part of the forum with help on administering your router.

if there's a factory reset button that might revert to the default security settings

Re: Mini box connected to neighbours main box but to my Wifi

A hard reset of the router will remove all Sky Q nodes from the network.

Assuming you have a hub 4 or under, hold the reset button down until the power light blinks green three times.

You need to then network reset each box by going to settings - setup - network.

Once you have network reset each box then connect them all back up again. Select option to connect to Sky broadband on the main box first then hold the wps button on the router until it flashes orange.
Once the main gateway box is connected you can connect each mini. Use the wps on the closest connected Q node.

If you have a booster as well, hard reset in the same way as you do with the router. Connect via the wps button.

If you have a large house and main Q is the furthest away, connect the closest node to the router first.

If there is any chance that your neighbour has your WiFi password then change it.

This should be done after a hard reset, as Q nodes will stay meshed even after the password is changed.
