Mini Q box Losing internet connection

I have had a sky Q mini box for a few years now with absolutely no problems at all. Occasionally I have had to reconnect to the network but on Thursday evening it suddenly went off I tried to reset but nothing happened. Since Thursday I have reset my router several times, the main box several times reset my network several times. If I go through the whole network reset including re entering my wifi password it does connect again and looks fine except the connection is lost again in less than 2 minutes . The box is not connected to the network and can no longer find the skyQ main box . I am on BT using their router and booster disc which is ibviously working fine as my computer Alexa and any other wifi gadgets are all still working fine.

there is also no problem with the main sky Q box can anyone help?

Hi @Posy43

First try rebooting the main Q box and then when this is completely back up and running reboot the mini.
To reboot press Standby on your Sky Q remote (if the box responds to the remote), and then switch off and unplug at the mains.
Wait at least 30 secs and then Plug back in and switch your Sky Q box back on at the mains.
Wait for the on screen instructions to disappear and the front led to turn Amber. Then wait for 30 secs before you press Home on your Sky Q remote or if this is not working press the standby button on the front of the Q box (Amber led)

note: some features may take up to 5 minutes to return.

Reboot the mini as above.
If the mini still does not connect try a Network Reset on the mini.
Network Reset found in mini Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Follow instructions to WPS with main Q box. (You cannot connect minis to non Sky Network WiFi)
You will be asked to press the WPS button on the main Q box (not the mini as the Network reset will start the mini WPS automatically).

Failing all of the above you may need a Sky Q WiFi Booster to position midway between your main Q box and the mini and you will need to contact Sky directly.

Re: Mini Q box Losing internet connection

Thank you for your reply but I have done all of that several times over.

why would I suddenly need a Sky Q WiFi Booster when it has been working fine for years?

Hi @Posy43

In your original post you mentioned inputting password.

Assume this was not on your mini box.

Re: Mini Q box Losing internet connection

I've been having similar issues and reset wifi router (SKY) and mini boxes and main sky Q box many times. It really is starting to frustrate me and is either (in my opinion) a hardware issue for those of use with original first edition sky Q and sky mini boxes and/or router or a firmware/software glitch that these older boxes can't handle.

please, please, please don't suggest that I turn the box off / reset. Anyone with common sense has googled this issue and done this many times already !!!

Hi @oldfella

I have figured it out now, or rather my husband has I wasn't aware we already had a sky booster. When the engineer installed our sky Q he put the booster box on top of one of the kitchen cabinets

when we checked that it had lost connection. Once we reconnected that the mini box connected automatically.

thank you so much for all your help

Re: Mini Q box Losing internet connection

So a massive issue I guess a cross the stock of Q boxes around the country.
many creaking at the seams.

my boxes fan comes on a lot and getting to a stage of needing a box swap out but if that doesn't work medium term then it will mean a rethink on whether to stick with sky after 20 years.

OK. No one on here is going to try to persuade you to stay in the club 😁

HDR is worth having though so should upgrade anyway but particularly if the box is getting noisy.
