Main Q Box Connectivity Issues

For a few years my main Q box has seamlessly connected to the WiFi. Recently I have added a new mini to the system (2 minis in total) which is hardwired to the main box. It (the main box) worked fine for about 3 weeks but now seems to fail and disconnect from the internet all the time, it's disconnected more often than not. I've reset everything, reconnected many times, rebooted my network and mesh system, switched off WiFi on mini box hardwired, prioritised bandwidth and switched to specific mesh systems in the house that are nearest the boxes and tried 2.4ghz only. I'm at a loss an think that my main Q box might have a hardware issue.

is there a quick and easy way to get an engineer visit arranged or do I have to call the helpline?

Hi @Jwatson3

First off minis if using WiFi will not connect to 3rd party WiFi or 3rd Party Extenders.

On option if you have a mesh system is to connect all of your Q boxes by Ethernet to your mesh nodes.

Re: Main Q Box Connectivity Issues

@oldfella My Mini Boxes have been connected to my WiFi fine. It's my main box which has been previously (years) connected to my wifi via a Deco mesh that's now failing.

One Mini box is fine on WiFi and the other is reliant on my main box being connected via WiFi to connect via Ethernet.

if I can't use 3rd party wifi or mesh it's utterly monopolistic from sky.

As I previously posted @Jwatson3

The best option with aWiFi Mesh system is to connect All Q boxes by Ethernet to mesh nodes

Re: Main Q Box Connectivity Issues

@oldfella  I can't do that though and the advice on here from before suggests that the only way to hardwire Mini boxes is to the main box, which I also can't do.

the problem is new. It had been working fine before which is why I'm confused as to why the issue has arisen.

The previous advice I've had on here worked for a period which was Main Box connected via WiFi, one mini box (furthest away from main) hardwired to main box (only one Ethernet port) and second mini connected to main (much closer) connected via WiFi.

im not in a position to have new cables run through walls to make Sky work. Its a bit of a joke we live in 2024 and I can't use 3rd party WiFi to watch tv... perhaps I'll reconsider my subscription.

Hi @Jwatson3

Sky Q main box can use use anyWiFii.  If3rdd party broadband it has to be on the 2,4Ghzz band.

Minis onWiFii can only connect to the Sky Q mesh.   This is generated by all Q devices

iee

Q router, Main Q box, Sky QWiFii boosters or another mini.

Minis can be connected by Ethernet to3rdd party devices but the issue being is that they all mustall be connected by the same method.

Main issue with3rdd party mesh and Q minis onWiFii is interference between the QWiFii mesh and a3rdd party mesh network.

If you cannot connect all Q boxes to mesh nodes by Ethernet then your best option is to ask Sky for a Sky QWiFii booster.
