LG G3 / SKY Q set up.

Hi

I'm setting up my new LG G3 55 inch with SKY Q.

The Sky Q auto detects 2180p as the highest resolution. But 10 bit fails with no picture on screen. It then says "10 bit could not be displayed".  Is this a known issue or do perhaps not have the right hdmi cable?

I'm also not that impressed with the SKY HD pic. Older threads seemed to suggest it oddly looked better on 1080p. Is tgatcstill the case or has that been resolved with updates ?

Sorry for all the questions.

hi @StewUK

First thing to check is that the HDMI inout used for SKy has Deep Color enabled (I think that is the setting for LG Tvs - although it might be something like enhanced)

It is unlikely to be a HDMI cable issue providing you are using the SKY supplied Pink lead (that said I use my own 4K Capable leads as I have multiple devices connected through my AV AMP)

Regarding the HD image - it can be down to personal prefernce and whether the TV or the SKY Q box is better at upscaling from HD to the 4K of the screen - it may be worth saying SKY Q boxes are older than the Tech of new TVs so it may be that TV upscales better

BTW do make sure your TVs firmware is up to date.

Re: LG G3 / SKY Q set up.

Hi Nigel

Thanks for the response!

I'll check those settings for sure.

Is there a way to allow the TV to upscale rather than the Q ? Asking think it'd do a better job!

hi @StewUK

Yes  - setting the SKY Q box resolution to 1080p (or 1080i) will cause the TV to do the upscaling but unfortunately doing this means you have to go into SKY Q settings to change it when you want to watch UHD (2160p) - There is no dynamic mode

Hi @StewUK

Not if you are watching UHD content.

If you are watching HD content then yes, with the Q box resolution set to 1080i or 1080p.

For HD content Q's native resolution is 1080i.   So setting Q resolution to 1080i means that the TV will deinterlace the content to progressive.    Q set to 1080p means that the Q box does the deinterlacing.

However setting the Q to 1080 resolution means that you have to change it to 2160p when viewing Q native UHD content.

Re: LG G3 / SKY Q set up.

Thankyou everyone.

I'll stick to the uhd settings.

I'm still mystified why the latest LG G3 only runs 8 bit not 10 bit according to the Sky auto test though hehe

Re: LG G3 / SKY Q set up.

I have that TV running 10 Bit. As mentioned earlier, you have to enable deep colour for it to work.

Re: LG G3 / SKY Q set up.

I had same problem as original post, my sky q box would not allow me to select 10 bit when connected to my new c3.

After much fiddling around, trying different hdmi cable etc I've found that changing to use the hdmi port no2 on the TV instead of no1 seems to have solved the issue.

My sky q box now allows the 10 bit option!

Bizarrely when I go into the settings menu of TV (general > external devices > hdmi settings) the option for HDMI Deep Colour is still greyed out, I'm guessing this is perhaps because it's on as a default??

On a slightly different topic I notice that after making the above change I'm able to download the Sky HDR Tutorials in HDR, prior to changes I was only able to download them in SD.
