Jumpy Solheim Cup video

Anyone else plagued by jumpy video during Friday's SkySports Solheim Cup live broadcast? I had what looked like dropped frames every few seconds all day long on both the UHD and HD channels.

Although I have not studied the footage or given a massive thought to it but I think that some of the portable  cameras (i.e. those using radio links rather than cables) are occasionally having brief hiccups sending the video back to 'base' control - certainly some of the glitches I have seen today seem that way.

edit BTW I haven't noticed lots

Re: Jumpy Solheim Cup video

That was my initial thought but the issue seemed to affect all cameras. Not easy to know which ones are cabled but for sure the tower cameras will be cabled and they were glitching too.

Yes it's something I've noticed on their recent coverage. I wasn't able to say exactly what but a jump every so often.

After nigea's post yes it probably is more from the roaming cameras than anything else.

Not an absolute gimme - with only 4 groups they might rely on taking some  (or all) cameras  between towers as play progresses & might not all be cabled

I have certainly noticed such Camera switching (although don't know if all towers were cabled)  when visiting the Women's Scottish Open where coverage was only of some of the key groups.

It doesn't help that Sky are false advertising the Solheim cup as UHD - it's not.

It's only filmed in HD - poor HD as well.

. It's only upscaled on the UHD main event channel and it looks horrid.

Time Sky only broadcast UHD things on the UHD channel

Off-topic but I couldn't agree more. I gather that Ofcom have been investigating them for passing off upscaled HD content as UHD.

Personally I didn't find it horrid and watched the coverage on SKY Sport ME UHD channel when available.

I don't have a problem with SKY using spare time on the ME UHD channel to show upscaled content but I agree that it should be labelled  that it is upscaled and not native UHD/HDR.& thus give viewers an informed choice.

As an aside back to the OP  - on days 2 & 3 I paid more attention to picture break up and saw very few cases indeed.

As another aside - some amazing Golf, as I expected, and I thought a tie a fitting result - Roll on the Ryder Cup

Re: Jumpy Solheim Cup video

The biggest thing for me is that they leave the HDR setting turned on all the time, so when you get something like this that much looks 720p upscaled, then it just makes it look horrid to me.

At least turn the HDR off. And it would be nice to know whats coming up in actual UHD. Everything shows in the guide as UHD.

Same here. Days 2 and 3 went pretty smoothly but Day 1 was bad on several counts.

Meanwhile, the golf was terrific and the contest becme an exciting roller-coaster. Pity the English ladies weren't playing well but fitting that the lone Spaniard rose to the occasion. I would have preferred a more classical golf course though.

Now for the main event and hopefully Sky and/or the host brodcaster will have ironed out all the bugs before Friday.
