Is my sky q replacement box hacked?

Hi guys.

I recently realised after not using sky q iplayer app in a while and I've discovered just today that someone else's account had been logging in and mine removed. The engineer who replaced it didn't do a factory reset of my old box so I'm not sure what's going on.

I had my faulty sky q box replaced in December and before that noticed that random apps like Disney plus, Netflix and prime video would stop working suddenly as if more than the allowed users were on at the same time.

Now with this new box and weird crashes as if it's updating its firmware or if you pulled the cable and turning off whilst watching a movie is the least of my problems. I get series linked recordings I've never seen or care to. I'm the only user in my house. Lots of weird things like suggestions I don't have any interest in. Slow and laggy performance on a wired Ethernet v3 sky q box on gigabit internet connection. It's so laggy.

im very scared. Could my Sky Q be hacked? How did someone with a silly name on profile manage to remotely remove my account for bbc iplayer for example and inset theirs. Attached screenshot.

even apps like itv x and Netflix etc have views and linked programs I've never seen or viewed. All passwords are different.

any advice would be greatly appreciated and thanks. 🙏

Are they actually logged in with your accounts / ids?

Have you tried logging into your own app accounts online or on a phone/tablet for iPlayer etc, so not what you see on your Sky box?

This will show you whether your accounts are still using your current email and password and profiles.

It maybe that the replacement box you were given, for some reason had previous customer data still on it.

So, you are seeing their apps still logged in and their recommendation data on your Sky Q box.

Not. Completely different account that I do not own. Problem with iplayer app is there's no way to see email of whom had logged in at the time. i relogged in using my account.

should or is there any security issue as in change sky account number or something?

Re: Is my sky q replacement box hacked?

Oh, this is only isolated to iplayer as in account of someone else . And as suggested yes I've logged in on the web/phone and all accounts belong to me. Besides this which I just removed.

thing is I relogged into all my sky Q apps on the replacement as soon as I could and that was in December of last year. So it's odd that old data would come back and sign me out of mine in the span of a month as I was using iplayer about a week ago. .

if it's old data, not sure how that'd happen? Wish I could see the email associated with the Ipkayer account as I could have sent an email to whoever it belongs too about this so they can secure their account lol.

the new box looked brand new with a new remote and everything. Engineer did not factory reset the old one so glad I had signed out of every app. This one was on an old firmware too.

im getting lots of lag etc. was working fine up until last month where series's I have never watched started to get "series linked" and when streaming, i get the dreaded wheel of death as it buffers. Happening to a lot of my apps and recordings.

thanks for the advice. What do you recommend I do next.

also thanks for reading and taking the time to help.

A few things to check.

First make sure your Sky Q software is up to date.

To check which Sky box you have:

  1. Press Home on your Sky Q remote.
  2. Select Settings followed by System info.
  3. Check your Hardware version and use the table below to see which type of Sky Q box you have.

Sky Q Software version for all Sky Q box types: Q270.000.10.09PL

If it is a lower number than above, go to update your Sky box software.

Would suggest doing an app refresh;

  1. Press Home on your Sky Q remote, then highlight Settings
  2. Press 0,0,1 and Select to access the Installer menu
  3. Select Apps then highlight Refresh all Apps on this box. You'll see a message that says, 'Your apps are being refreshed'.
  4. Press Dismiss to return to normal viewing.

The refresh can take 24 hours to complete in the background.

Yes think that is the latest software rolling out to customers in a staged month or so rollout, so some may not have that one yet I expect.
