Funnily sony TV started then turned off

Funnily sony TV started then before a picture came on turned itself off when using the sky remote. I ended up rebooting the sky box and it seemed to right itself. Now I am having to start TV with its own remote as it's like the box and TV are having some software problems....

Re: Incompatible with Sony

Sorry to bump an old thread but I've been having similar issues to this for a few months.

I used to use my Sony remote to control my TV (Sony Bravia 4K UR3) and Sky Q box, but all of a sudden it stopped functioning with the Sky Q box.

Now I've switched to using the Sky Q remote but it's extremely fiddly turning the TV off. I have to hold the power down for exactly two seconds or the TV restarts.

Sony have just pushed out an update to my TV and now there's and option to control your TV box with your remote control under External Inputs/ TV box setup. However if I run this it can't find my tv box (Sky Q) and what's more on another settings page it's not listed as connected.

The only thing I can think is either it doesn't like the HDMI cable or it's bugged.

You really don't want to use a TV remote to control the Q imho. You lose bluetooth and voice.

If I was you, I'd just use the Sony remote to turn the TV off.

Re: Incompatible with Sony

I never use voice. What do you mean you lose Bluetooth?

Re: Incompatible with Sony

I've just fixed the issue.

If you change RS232C control to off under External Inputs/ Advanced Settings it allows the Sony remote to control the Sky Q box.

Result!

But you still lose bluetooth and voice control

Fair enough. I can't live without "fast forward four minutes" to skip ads 🙂

Re: Incompatible with Sony

I don't actually have a voice control remote anyhow. Also what do mean by you lose Bluetooth, what functionality is that stopping?

Just convenience. Don't have to worry about line of sight or pointing the remote towards the box

I think I can just about live without that!

Hi @Zammo2

Just set up a Sony remote for Q here and it wasn't neccessary to turn the RS232C off.

However it did take me multiple attemps to achieve full control.  So many in fact that I cannot remember which Sky box setting I used in the setup.

Re: Incompatible with Sony

Doesn't surprise me it seems very glitchy.

It actually stopped working agai  so I toggled RS232C control back off (so via HDMI port is selected), and now it seems to be holding.

One step I forgot to mention above was when I changed this setting I went to TV box setup and searched for the box again to reconnect it.

If you're in the position where it already has a TV box assigned and your remote isn't working properly goto the Reset option that shows up here. Then setup the TV box again.

Yes definitely unpredicable @Zammo2

After previous posting I tried using the Sony remote on the Q box and it didn't work on all the options.

Select and direct controls on the Sony remote were working but couldn't select Q Home or Recording list in the TV menu.

So I thought mmm I will try turning off RS232.

I did this and as you know the TV reboots and when it restarted the controls were working.  However it did seem to take some time to recognise the controls on the TV menu.

So reverted the RS232 back to HDMI and after the reboot the TV menu controls weren't working.   However after leaving it for 5 or 6 minutes they started to function.

It does seem to take a while after switch on (from Standby) for the controls to full register.

Re: Incompatible with Sony

Hi - I have recently (October) purchased a Sony Bravia 8 tv and installed it with sky q box . I have the same issues as others mention with Tv freezing and randomly shutting down and rebooting. This only seems to happen on sky q both on live tv and playback ( not Apple TV ) . I have updated firmware on both and reset , turned off hdmi control , checked all energy settings and power off settings , all to no avail . I have also replaced sky q box and no joy. Issue occurred three times yesterday. Can anybody offer an update or solution on what appears to be an ongoing software issue ? Thanks in advance for any help.
