How to get new box quickly?

Situation is this. Last night connectivity between Q box and mini boxes failed. Initially promised engineer in 8 days. However since then:

No Sky Go - error 1413.

No Sky Go on phone - technical issue. Main box stuck in continous loop "You will be ready to go in a couple of minutes", followed by "Hello" then "You will be ready..." again. Stuck in loop.

 

Tried everything so for £140+ per month we have no TV for 8 days and Sky don't give a fig! I think hard drive has gone but I am guessing.

 

Need new box I reckon ASAP.

To get a Sky Box quickly, contact Sky and speak with someone. Chat doesn’t work as well, doesn’t pick up nuances and still doesn’t think out of the box. For example, I wasn’t offered the option of a new box instead of an engineer. Boxes are sent out for delivery the next day.

To obtain the phone number you need to go into your account, go through the help options, basically scroll through to the bottom of the page until you get to “Do you still need help?”. Answer Yes and avoid using Chat. (I guess using chat you could ask for a new box, but I didn’t know that) Persevere through the operator, if you cannot recall your telephone password it doesn’t matter.
Regarding SkyGo, this wasn’t fixed. Of note, I couldn’t remove any connected devices within my Sky account nor indeed change their name. However, I was told that SkyGo should work even without the main box connected to power or internet. So, we will see what happens later this week. I did have 3 devices connected - Oops.
Judging by the lingering smell in my lounge, at least one component within my Sky Q box has burnt out and the noisy fan and other things didn’t help. Maybe with all the rebooting, my SkyGo settings were corrupted?

If Sky insist on sending an engineer then you've been given the earliest date in your area.


Otherwise Sky may suggest a 'doorstep box swap' whereby a courier company (usually DPD in the UK) deliver a new box and take your pre-disconnected faulty box away so remember to remove the viewing card from the old box before it disappears into the van. Also accept the power cable the courier brings in case it's a different fitting to the one you have.

Once the issue is resolved you can ask Sky for a credit to cover the period where you could not use your services.

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers

8 days without TV? Elderly people rely on it. Money isn't the issue really. It is the principle.

Furthermore, Sky Go isn't working. Watch Sky anywhere. Not.

When a main box is malfunctioning it's important to switch it off entirely (at the mains socket)  before trying to get Sky Go to work, otherwise the app tries to pick up service through the box.

I cannot get Sky Go to work. Technical issue on Android phone, various error messages on my laptop which implies I have to contact customer services. How the heck do I do that? What is their number? What options should I select if there is a number?

Q Box disconnected entirely. No power. (Doesn't now work, stuck in that Hello loop). You can perhaps see why we need Sky Go.

Missing darts, test match coverage, snooker. Just isn't good enough Sky. And my wife is giving me hell!

 

(Complaint gone in. Will be another written one and another to my MP as I have serious issues with Sky. I am retired and have the time!)

These are the current methods for contacting Sky, and some will be more appropriate than others …

🟧 📞 Customer Services by dialling 150 (free) from either a Sky mobile or your Sky Talk landline if you have Sky Broadband. The forum doesn’t allow the display of other numbers but official numbers to Sky from the UK are 03 numbers which are usually inclusive from non Sky phones.

All calls will start automated (aka ‘the bot’) which may offer you the online help route or try to send you here to the forum. Stay on the line as long as possible and sometimes saying nothing when asked the reason for the call helps being put in the queue for an agent.

If necessary a number may be visible at the end of the correct help flow.

🟧Sky Assistant 💬 should also be available via
https://www.sky.com/help
for most service issues and gives you 24/7 help and a quick response. It should provide you with multiple choice options based on your problem and will provide troubleshooting steps to fix any service issues.

🟧Social Media You can also get in touch via the messaging services on Facebook or Instagram, (links at the bottom of the forum page).

🟩Note ~ ROI customers If you’re in the ROI make sure the flag in the bottom right of the link is showing the correct flag and change if required. The Sky Ireland phone lines are closed at a weekend.

Also worth pointing out that Sky have up to 8 weeks to resolve a complaint or issue a deadlock letter, by which time you'll have had either an engineer visit or a new box delivered. 

Not a lot of point in submitting another complaint (it'll likely be closed immediately as you've already submitted one). Also not sure how an MP is going to get you an earlier appointment. There are far fewer engineers these days after a large number were made redundant in the last 18 months as Comcast move away from satellite services.

If your Sky Q box is broken, can Sky Go work? Or is trying to use Sky Go a dream in the sky until such time as the engineer comes around?

 

As a former engineer, when a computer whines, makes a lot of noise, goes bang (like the box did) you don't need an engineer!

 

Edited to answer question. Google AI says box must be connected to power and network. (which it currently is).

 

Sky needs a cultural kick up the backside.

Sky Go should work fine even if the box is unplugged or broken. You won't have the full service but would be able to watch all major Sky channels.

After great difficulty, I have a telephone number to contact Sky. Sky doesn't seem to recognise my full name or indeed the name on the account but the "operator" asks for my password. Which one? I assume it is not the password I use to log in (which I will never divulge) but the answer to the security question? If not, what is it and where do I find it and change it?

Sky Go definitely does not need your Sky Q to be operating, it's the fallback solution for things like temporary scaffolding or dish misalignment during strong winds, and delayed setup after initial orders or house move

I am just another Sky customer!
