It's usually Eurosport that has the rights to the Olympics as well as the BBC and/or ITV.  Have Sky managed to get the HDR rights or is it going to be via Eurosport.

@trevforum don't as I thought it was strange when they said that but it's what has been said so guess we will have to wait and see

@trevforum Presumably Sky will be letting Europsort 4K use one of their UHD transponders for the duration as they are for the Tennis.

Like you I'm a customer here, Sky Employees are clearly identified as such.

Maybe it's like the tennis when Eurosport borrow a UHD transpnoder and Sky are going to see if HDR works for them and if it doesn't then they can blame Eurosport!

Sky will be launching a sports HDR channel very soon, Testing is very advanced with the recent Football Play Offs being broadcast in UHD HDR as well Test Cricket and T20 Blast games to select people and boxes

The Olympics will be available on Sky HDR in association with Eurosport

@Jamie+Simms has a role in this area on Sky's side and always updates on the latest when he can.

Re: HDR sport

We've not got any plans to update the iPlayer for the Euros so you'll have to use other devices if you want to watch in 4k or 4k/HDR. The Olympics will be our first HDR live broadcast but whether we do a public test before then we'll see.

I womder if there will still be a delay with the conversion to HLG like there was with the BBC World Cup where people would hear cheering from other people watching the terrestrial feed when goal was scored only to see it some seconds later on the HLG feed.  Also, is it going to be in Atmos or at least in 5.1 as the BBC HLG only does PCM 2.0.

I'm hoping the lag in UHD/HDR on Sky will be lower than BBC as the Beeb need to compress more to minimise bandwdith. That's less of an issue on satellite broadcasts.

Don't expect it to be much, if any different to the lag on the currrent UHD Sky broadcasts.

I think it's highly unlikely they'll offer 5.1, let alone Atmos as they would be shouting about it in their press release. Why not ask them? I would if I was remotely interested in football. But I'm not. 😁

I was really meaning the sound on the supposed Sky UHD HDR channel.  I know the BBC use PCM 2.0 total which is the 5.1 channel downmixed and can be expanded back to 5.1 or 5.0 using Dolby Surround or Dolby Pro Logic upmixer.  Obviously not as good as a discrete 5.1 mix.

I'm afraid that's just a feature of life in this century: now almost every media feed is digital, nothing can be in 'real time' anymore apart from the remnants of FM/LW radio transmission.  It's unfortunately entirely possible for adjoining households within earshot of each other to be consuming the same 'live' content on at least half-a-dozen platforms*, each with a different delay from what's actually happening on the pitch.  Joy.

*actually, more than a dozen, just as a quick thought experiment and assuming both BBC and Sky are covering the same match as they might in the latter stages of a major competition.

BBC on LW/FM Radio
BBC on DAB Radio
'Radio' through BBC Sounds
BBC on Freeview
BBC on Freesat

Sky Sports HD (live) on main Q box
Sky Sports UHD (live) on main Q box
Sky Sports HD (live) on Q Mini box

BBC iPlayer (standard feed)

BBC iPlayer (HLG feed)
Sky Go 'at home' via satellite feed
Sky Go 'at home' streaming to a console client

Sky Go over cellular data
Sky Sports Mobile TV (until next month)
NowTV

Re: HDR sport

Sky must have some serious issues with hdr..premier league in Poland is in fact in HDR. Whole Euro2021 in 4K through satellite and free view and not broadband what is much easier to watch..don't get me wrong sky started 4K revolution but stopped somewhere and since didn't move

Eurosport's 4K channel is normally in HDR - just not via Sky - so I guess it may be that.

Could even me the BBC iPlayer coverage.
