HDMI lead not working

I have tried a new one so thinking it's the box it's self

The cable is not faulty as I have tried a new one and it's still the same I think it maybe the bit on the box that the lead goes into

Ok so the title of the thread was a bit confusing then.

How do you know it's not sending a signal? What symptoms?
