HDMI issues or is it the remote? nothing works!

Struggling to get reconnected to Sky box - TV states HDMI not connected or no signal - tried resetting old and new remotes - couldn't get past the 1 &3 bit. Ordered new box, same problem. Tried rebooting box, tried different hdmi portal / could it be the TV?

What happens if you just press the physcial  on/standby button on the sky box?

Standby is hot and miss. we've got as far as the screen that says we need to pair the card (as we are onto new Sky box) but remote won't select the red button to do it. Tried two remotes, tried resetting the remotes, added new batteries. Can't seem to get past the first step. And then it goes back to no signal.
