HD removed from package

I couldn't agree on a decent price for HD with Sky.  Its been removed as of today.  I know I cant watch HD recordings etc but for less obvious things like Sky Showcase I can still view them but Im guessing they default to SD along with channels like Alibi? Stupid question I know.  Im on Aky Signature. Im just wondering if I can live without HD.  Its ridiculous to be charged for some that has been around for well over 15 years now and is industry and broadcasting standard.

Hi @Harry+and+Lola   However it does give some people the option to save some money. You don't believe that Sky would turn off that revenue stream on Sky Q without replacing it with something else. It would probably mean an increase for eveybody!

hi @Harry+and+Lola

Yes  you will only be able to view most channels in SD. (this includes SKY Sports News & SKY Sports Mix which are  part of Signature & not SKY Sports add on)

The only ones you can watch in HD are the FTA channels such as BBC & ITV

Note, also, there is a quirk that you can watch C4 & C5 live  & record in HD but I think for both of these you cannot download catch up/On demand in HD without the HD add on

Re: HD removed from package

I am not sure what package you've on but I am on the full package + TNT  sports and multiroom My monthly subscription is £155. A month the price of   HD on my account is only £6 which if I did not have it would be a very small saving and compared with having to put up with grotty picture to me is not worth that minimum saving. If you were to subscribe to Sky stream which we will all have to do in a couple of years if wanted to with Sky HD is standard there no extra cost for it and there is no sd channels

A while ago I calculated even if only 50% of Sky satellite television customers choose to pay the HD supplement it's about half a billion pound annual income for Sky: that's rather a lot more than the recent profits for the whole of Sky Group.

No the HD versions of BBC stay at 101, & 102 - in fact there aren't any BBC SD versions any more

Re: HD removed from package

Ok That must be recent  as a little while ago there was complaint that 101 and 102 were as and HD versions were put the 800s. These days there are probably not many tv around that are not HD compatible. but there are still a few and people with very and sky box's that don't do HD  in that they connect them to their tv using the trail socket, that why the standars with sky Q is SD. However  they are in the minority and sky could drop the sd changes and give every body HD as standard probley  absorbing the HD charge in the basic sky package price That would reduce the amount of channels that sky would have uplink to the satellite reducing there cost. But   sky Q is reaching it end of  life with the end satellite tv in few years any way so it probably not worth doing. However  with the streaming services  we hat are replacing sky Q there is no sd channels and the standard package HD any way and bet sky have made sure the HD cost is absorbed in the basic price though

The BBC switched to HD 2 years ago (although I guess it may not seem that long ago)

I know that it is probably just me, but I have never understood why people "trust" the word of complete strangers. We know that the vast majority of posters have a problem and most satisfied people don't bother.
