HD and UHD

Hi. Can anyone tell me why I'm paying for Sky HD & Sky UHD? Do I need either?

@Fender25

That depends on what format you want to watch programmes in and what your main TV is capable of receiving, if you want to watch available programmes in UHD you'll need that add on as well as HD.

Only you can decide if you find paying for them worth it.

You can't have UHD without the HD add on- although some of the pages might be read such that UHD includes HD - it doesn't and UHD is not stand alone

You need the UHD add on to watch any channels or downloads in UHD (apps are different)

The HD add on applies to any HD channel that form part of the base entertainment pack - SKY Signature which also includes downloads for them as well as HD downloads from Channel 4 & C5

(SKY Sports has a separate  Sports HD add on which is included as standard in the UK but not Ireland)

Also if you have Netflix through SKY , HD add on  allows 2 screens & UHD allows   4 screens + UHD

Re: HD and UHD

Thanks @ nigea99.
I should have worded my post better.
What I really want to know is if I actually 'need'  HD with a Sky Q box. I've cancelled the UHD as im not bothered and don't watch films etc. i actually watch very little TV. My question is if I cancel HD as well will it affect anything i.e recording. Im not very technical as I think you will be able to tell 😂

@Fender25

If you cancel HD and you still have recordings you made in HD you'll no longer be able to watch them. You'll still be able to record in SD but you might notice the picture quality isn't as good.

Hi @Fender25

SD quality is certainly far inferior to HD.

Cannot see why anyone would want to SD in preference to HD.

However you pay your money and make your choice.

Personally I avoid SD like the plague

hi @Fender25

As @oldfella  & @Daniel0210  have indicated you do not need the HD add on -

Although most programmes already recorded in HD will prompt for an upgrade so you will need to watch before you cancel (or download the SD version from catch up afterwards)

All channels with a few exceptions have SD versions - the BBC has recently switched to HD only but that is what we call Free To Air and does not need the HD add on to view or record

If you do cancel the HD add on we suggest you change your default Download preference to SD (otherwise you are likely to be prompted to upgrade again):

Main Menu -> Settings -> Setup -> Preferences
(Please note this setting can only be set on the Main box)

Re: HD and UHD

Thank you. That's made it a lot clearer. Think I will stick with HD although £9 a month is just ridiculous!! Hey ho!

Couldn't agree more @Fender25

Certainly HD should be the standard spec but obviously the Supplement payment is big income and most if not all TV suppliers charge.

It's a total con. You can't watch UHD without having HD. Absolutely bonkers and a rip off.

That's correct.

HD pack upgrades from SD to HD.

UHD pack upgrades from HD to UHD. (HD is a prerequisite)

If you don't believe it's value then don't subscribe to them.
