Getting a Sony 4K TV delivered

We've had a Sky Q 1TB box since January 2020.

This week we're having delivered a Sony Bravia 43" 4K Ultra HD Television but I'm not sure if the Q Box is compatible. The current Sony is HD ready at 1080p. The latest software update has been successfully installed.

My question is; Do we need an uprated Q Box? Trying to navigate around the Sky site is like swimming upstream in treacle!..... No help whatsoever.

Hi @Essex+Customer   Sky Q (all boxes) work fine with Sony 4K TVs. Why would you think otherwise? You would probably be wasting money getting a UHD subscription with a small 43" TV. HD would be ideal.

A 1TB acquired after late 2019 should  be the UHD/HDR model.

However if the order didn't include the UHD add-on when it was placed, it's not impossible that Sky supplied the previous 1TB model (2016-19) which cannot output UHD.

To check which Sky box you have:

Press Home on your Sky Q remote.

Select Settings followed by System info.

Hi @Essex+Customer   Just to be clear, a 32Cxxx box works fine with 4K TVs. The TV upscales the HD picture to 2160 x 3840.

As @MightyQuinn indicates, a UHD Sky box is only required to watch the limited amount of native UHD content available through a Sky subscription (with the applicable extra monthly cost)

The television itself will have a full set of UHD-capable apps for non-Sky streaming services, and would probably be better at upscaling HD to UHD than a Q box can manage.
