LADIES AND GENTLEMAN
WE HAVE A FIX
WE HAVE PROOF THIS IS A WHITELISTING ISSUE
SKY ARE GONNA HAVE SOME LONG HARD QUESTIONS TO ANSWER IN THE MORNING
Sincere thanks to Markxxxx who has jumped through hoops for days here and much longer prior to this. I'm sure he will jump on this thread and give a co code summary of what he did, because I don't pretend to understand it
Then, tomorrow, Sky needs to own this and needs to resolve it
I have NEVER been able to successfully download a series of ANYTHING without the 'failed, remote network error' and I just have. Thanks to Marks fix. Which, if I understand the tech, proves this is a whitelisting issue
I'm praying for a 'Mark' post that I can pass on to Sky tomorrow so they j deratsnd what he is saying and what needs to be done..
Genius

As I have been saying, Akamai are blocking several UK ISP subnets.
As proof, I configured my router to answer DNS queries from my SKY Q box
When SKY Q attempts to resolve ondemand.cdnselector.skycdp.com, my router replies with the Limelight IP
The SKY box connects and downloads without failures.
If I configure my router to give any Akamai IP, then the downloads fail.
I just configured my router to respond from the Internet and Craig configured his SKY Q box to use my router for DNS. result : he could download a 10 part series which like me, would never have worked before.
Either Akamai Whitelist what they consider to be UK IPs, OR they Blacklist non-UK IPs.
The problem is they are not keeping up to date with the many Fibre providers out there, in the UK, that have small subnets (small customer base) and therefore have problems downloading.
I don't understand why no one from SKY is responding or assisting?, this issue is in forums going back 6 years. I have had it since my 1Gb Fibre was first installed in about 2020-21, surely someone would want to fix this and stop annoying new customers?

Mark,
It gets worse.
Not only will Sky not help...they won't let us help each other
I am NOT a conspiracy theorist, but our brief series of private messages are now 'too many' and it won't let me post.
And in trying to check exactly what to buy to sort this myself, Sky won't let me post a link so that you can verify it's the right thing
So it's a TRIPLE block
Won't admit it's an issue
Won't help fix the issue
By accident or design blocking US from fixing the issue.
It is UTTERLY BIZARRE...

I am praying to all that is holy that this GENUINE attempt to resolve this issue by pointing me to the equipment I need to resolve Sky's issue for THEM will not be seen as a breach of the rules...
I'm praying for some commonsense and co-,operation from the mods and super users given the ongoing nature of this issues the number of people involved and the fact that this is a proven solution to a problem that has plagued people for years...

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more😆how much did that Cisco kit retail for originally? £4.99. Incredible.
Also- imagine if we were just all on ipv6 how easy life would be.

Annnnd it's gone. Ridiculous having something like that in my tiny flat anyway, shouldn't even need to consider it. Desperately hoping that Sky does something about this now, given these recent developments.

@DalikVee wrote:@Craigv9 A superuser has asked Sky to investigate with Akamai and also escalated my own complaint (see post #48). I was invited into a direct chat here on the community after that, the employee on the chat was aware of the issue and said that they would relay this to the appropriate team to confirm that my issue is the same one. Whether or not anything will actually be done about it, I have no idea as of yet unfortunately.
I'm sure a superuser will be able to help with your request as soon as one sees your post.
Regards
I already had escalated Craig's
I am concerned that Sky support don't understand this is not an issue with their service (the "check it's the same issue" thing, which is a similar problem with their own geo-ip lookups) but rather with their partner Akamai.

Chorley
I'm praying that if Mark is 'disappeared' for suggesting the purchase of non Sky goods that you'll be able to help me with the coding....!
Would be super ironic if the solution was pulled from our grasp!
I'm hoping that if Sky won't sort the issues they might do a Community Post linking to the goods that can mean customers sort Sky's mess out for them..
I have to say this whole affair has baffled me. I worked somewhere for 30 years. We took ownership of problems. Something like this would have been resolved..perhaps not in a day, but it would have taken 5 years
It's your ball Sky, what are you going to do with it?
This solution is already on search engines...you're gonna be getting calls...

Dalik,
I grabbed it, but there's loads more. But this isn't OUR problem. It's Sky's...

That eBay listing for the Cisco router I meant 😂
I see what you mean about Sky's understanding of the issue too as my discussions with them don't mention Akamai in particular either, but rather just "geolocation". That is slightly concerning.

One of the physical things that is sold somewhere (we can't mention that can solve this)
Chodley,
We would appreciate some advice here.
There is a £10 solution (router and lead), but if anyone mentions it or it's whereabouts, it'll be a breach of community standards and the ban hammer will appear. But it's the SOLUTION. To the PROBLEM. And we can't talk about it?
I keep looking for Jeremy Beadle. This is a FARCE
Please, how do we move forward on these two issues
1: If Sky won't sort it, how can we, within the rules, flag up the kit that can sort it?
2: How can we get Sky to sort this?
I'm hoping I'm not the only one flapping at the wind here?
