Customising Programs

Afternoon all,

Is it possible to customise my own Sky Package, i.e chose and pay for the channels that I want to watch without the added **bleep** that often comes with a bundle?  E.g. I don't have kids in my household so I would avoid ALL kids channels and anything to do with religion too. So I could select Channel 1, 8 9 etc..  and just pay for what I watch. :).   We'll, in the 21st century, I should be able to do that, right?

Ah.... that'll be bliss.

Thanks for the headsup 🙂

@Rocket75

You have to subscribe to the base package which is Signature in the first place, then you add the additional add-ons that you want such as Kids, Sky Cinema, Sky Sports etc.

Re: Customising Programs

Hi Daniel,

I've already subscribed to the base package, and it comes with all sorts of 'bells & whistles' i.e unecessary programs that I'm unable to remove (that's what I've been told).

So I'm paying for programs that I never watch!

That's one way to view it but you can't reduce your bill or remove them.

@Rocket75

I doubt there are any customers who will watch every channel.

Rolling your own bespoke service is not possible with any current platform: the financial implications for the platform provider would be horrendous.  A great many of those channels aren't receiving even a fraction of your Sky subscription anyway.

@SKY1992bf, imagine going to a car dealer and purchasing a Maserati, and then you're told that just because you've paid for a Maserati doesn't mean you'll get one.  You'll have to make do with a Ford instead.😏

The Kids channels are part of a seperate Kids Pack, so you can remove them if you happen to have that package and don't want it. The religious channels are all free to air and aren't part of any Sky package. Actually a significant number of channels that you might think you're paying for but don't want are free services, which aren't part of your Sky subscription and are also on Freesat.

Nothing wrong with a Ford. I'm on my 16th and wife has had quite a few too 😂

That's a pretty terrible metaphor. If you'd received a radio when you paid for a TV service, maybe it would have fitted better.

@Chodley

Not at all!  I'm paying for programs that I don't need, so I'm paying a lot but getting very little. I'd like to pay for what I need/like.  What's hard to understand about that?  This IS  possible, the technology is out there. One day, when consumers aren't treated as 'cash cows', the option will be available.

Hi @Rocket75   Of course you are, that is the business model. Sky/Comcast are in the business of extracting as much money as possible from you. They are not going to introduce anything that will reduce their income.

How much of your monthly sub goes to these channels you don't want?

The answer is close to zero.

so you're not paying for anything you don't want. Based on your "kids and religious" categories. Since Kids isn't included and religious stuff is FTA.

Have you called up Netflix to ask if you can only pay for the shows you watch?

I'd quite like to not pay anything towards Manchester City but as I don't get that choice, I just don't subscribe to Sports.
