Hi guys,
I am about to order a sky Q box for an outbuilding we have, which is pretty far from the house. At the moment my main sky box is connected to the sky hub through wifi.
Will I be able to plug my Sky mini box via ethernet into the router? Will this work even though my main box is connected via wifi?
Thanks

hi @Goldman18
it depends on who your router/wifi is with - if SKY yes this should work, if not SKY then no - in this case you need to connect the ethernet from the mini to the main box (or both to the router)

Hi @Goldman18 , short answer is no, the Sky Q mini receives it's content via the main Sky Q box and as you have this connected via WiFi then the only way to do this would be via a Sky booster , I don't even think power line adapters would work unless the 2 box's are on the same ring main.

Hi,
That is great, thank you. Yes I am with sky, had just read contrasting things over whether it will work with the main box using Wi-Fi.
Thanks

Ok this is what I mean with contrasting answers!
Would it defintley work if my mini box is plugged into the main sky q box (regardless of how that is connected to the internet)
Thanks

If it were me I would hardwire the router to the main Sky Q box via an unmanaged switch then hardwire the mini box to the same same switch it that is possible.

When your broadband/wifi is SKY you can mix & match connections & ethernet is the most reliable - especially for the outbuidling.

Hi @nigea99 , I take it from your reply that Sky Routers have WiFi backhaul then?

Thanks both for your answers.
One more (stupid) quesiton. If i connected the sky mini box to a switch first and then to the router, would that still work the same? Or does it have to go directly from the mini box to the router?
It is just I would like something else connected in the outbuilding too.
Thanks

hi @Goldman18
It should be OK to go via a Switch - but note SKY Q doesn't seem to like managed switches - OK with unmanaged ones
