We have tried for 2 days to get our tv programmes switched off at all points. When we get back on only get bbbc etc no recordings and no Netflix etc

You'll need to explain more clearly what the issue is as that doesn't make much sense.

Any messages about network/satellite signal?

It sounds like possibly you have a hard drive failure in your box if both recordings and netflix are failing and only live tv works.
