@DC1964

I'd observe that errors made by salespeople don't negate contract terms, although the parent company should seek to remedy the situation if the customer has been disadvantaged by the error.  The Q contract, as noted above, is very clear: ownership of Q television hardware remains with Sky, and it is loaned for subscription use.

This topic has been repeatedly revisited here in the nearly eight years since Q was released because it is understandably confusing for Sky to charge a fee which is not a purchase price, but the outcome is always the same.

As Sky own them anyone selling them is selling stolen equipment so it is advisable not to purchase these as you will run into difficulties when they are blocked by Sky.

Promoting the sale of stolen goods on an open forum might not be a good idea!

Re: Buy extra sky q mini box

As much as it's been fun reading all the experts getting upset about who owns the boxes and where you purchase them from did you manage to order them and how much are they?

@dave1906

You won't get a response from a specific poster if you don't tag them.

The answers are 'from Sky' and  with a £49 fee for each box: it's not a purchase.

Nobody was "getting upset" - just pointing out that you can never "own" Sky Q equipment, just loan it.

Re: Buy extra sky q mini box

I'm just jumping on this thread as it's the closest to what I'm looking for....

If you add another mini box to your account, you pay the £50 for the box, but do have to pay any extra each month? I can't find any details on the site.

Cheers

@Ans38

No. You can have a maximum of 4 mini boxes loaned to you by Sky. Each mini box which is loaned to you may be subject to a one off upfront charge but you only need one Sky Q monthly Multiscreen subscription.

Re: Buy extra sky q mini box

Just to confuse things slightly I did buy a sky plus box and dish off sky back in 2009.

I think it might have been a pre curser to now tv and may have been a very limited trial.

as far as I could tell it was only available from curry's/pc world and for a one off payment you got sky to come and install the dish and box. It was all contract free and you also didn't need the box connected to a phone line. It caused real confusion to the customer service people and the installation guy as at that point they couldn't comprehend not having a phone line connected. BUT my info pack from curry's and after being on hold for ages always confirmed this set up did exist.

you couldn't order pay per view through the box and not all services worked. Seem to remember having to phone up a few times and updates took ages to filter through to the box. I think it took bout 48 hours before any updates worked.  Watching pay per view sport was impossible as the box couldn't get the message you had paid for something in time even if they activated it over the phone.

as I say, i did own the equipment as it was all in a one off payment and was contract free.

other than that one off bizarre set up that I never saw again, sky have always been clear they own the equipment and must be sent back.

They are still available and still loaned to customers. Each mini box which is loaned to you may be subject to a one off upfront charge but you only need one Sky Q monthly Multiscreen subscription.
