Blue Light on Sky Box

On my sky box this morning there appeared to be a blue light swirling around, I tried to turn off the TV but could not turn it offSky Q box.jpg. How do I rectify this issue, I have only havd Sky Q since December.Do I need to turn off the box from the mains and wait 5 mins or so and should this rectify itself. Is the box doing an upgrade?Sorry not that technical.

Welcome to the Sky Community forums.

What time is this happening (I can't make out the time on the phone screen)?

Re: Blue Light on Sky Box

Does it really matter what time it is? I noticed it early this morning at 6:30am. The issue is  what it is and why I cannot turn on my tv from the sky remote?

Follow the advice as detailed in the Sky help article below.

Namely, try the recovery procedure and if that fails, you can order a replacement box online;

If you do need to order a replacement box, make sure you keep your current viewing card, as you will need this for your replacement box.

@KS64

Yes, as described in this link but 0630 is a bit late for that.

Did someone leave the box in playback last night?

When you say switch off do you mean at the mains?  If so the box is designed to run all the time as certain maintenance can occur overnight.

An essential software update may be in progress.  However, if it does not complete then you can try a power cycle.

Just to be sure, when you went through the recovery procedure, you kept the standby button on the front of the box held down until you saw the alternating red and amber lights.

If you see no alternating lights after 30 seconds to a minute, switch off at the ma'ns and try the recovery procedure a couple more times.

If it does not solve your issue come, afraid you will have to order an replacement Sky Q box.

The recovery procedure is:

  1. Switch the Sky Q box off at the mains.
  2. Hold down the standby button on the front of the box, then switch it back on at the mains.
  3. Keep the standby button held down until you see alternating red and amber lights on the front of the box. This can take 30 seconds to a minute. This will start a software update.
  4. The  update can take up to 15 minutes, then the box will turn off and go back to a single red light.
  5. Your box will restart.
  6. After the on screen messages have disappeared, press Home on your Sky Q remote to switch your box back on.
