Audio fading in and out with AVR
Morning. Recently purchased a JBL ma710 avr and 5.1 speaker system. Experiencing wi3rd sound fluctuations when sky signal is selected, volume fading in and out regularly every few seconds.
signal path is :
Hisense 65e7hqtuk to with eArc enabled, hdmi 2 into hdmi out eArc on the avr
sky q hdmi into hdmi input one
sound is fine when using the smart to apps, etflix, YouTube etc, and when Bluetooth to the avr with Spotify etc but switch to the sky input signal and it fades in and out
I set the sky box up to Dolby plus but makes no difference even if setting to stereo
going a bit mad

hi @Bluereason
Can I just check is the HDMI 1 you refer to on the AVR or on the TV
If it is the TV have you tried connecting SKY Q directly to the AVR - I belive it has HDMI inputs capable of full HDR pass through

Re: Audio fading in and out with AVR
Hi, yes - sorry maybe not as clear as could have been
sky Q hdmi out into avr hdmi 1 input
avr EArc output into hdmi 2 (eArc) hdmi on tv
Smart to sound is fine going back into the avr and 5.1 all works as should when running a YouTube demo, but when switching to the sky input on the avr no matter what setting I seem to fiddle with, the sound has odd phasing in and out.

Many thanks @Bluereason
TBH I have no idea why you should be getting such fluctuations.
Clutching at straws, have you tried connecting to any of the other HDMI Inputs on the AVR (I believe there are 3) - I suspect you have but worth asking/trying
Edit - I generally advise direct to AVR but have you also tried connecting SKY Q to your TV & relying on the TV pass through of sound to the ARC connection to the AVR ?

Re: Audio fading in and out with AVR
Thanks - yep it's phased me and I think it must be something to do with the tv arc interfering somehow. I'll give it a go running the audio out of the tv as optical into the avr and turning off arc altogether and also yes, gong from the sky q to the tv and using arc to get back down to the audio. What a faff for something that should be pretty simple!

I really can't see why the ARC should cause any interference with the other inputs to the AVR but I guess worth a try just for elimination purposes
Ah I missed the optical input on the AVR - worth trying that from SKy Q to the AVR also
Using optical does limit the signal to 5.1 and not atmos though from either TV or SKY Q
If optical works direct from SKY Q I would be tempted to leave that unless you are using for 5.1.2 atmos

Re: Audio fading in and out with AVR
HI - update, still lost. Optical out from sky box to JBL AVR - sound fades in and out still. HDMI out from Sky box to TV and then sound from TV to AVR via ARC. - sound fades in and out. Using TV speakers and HDMI straight from sky box, sound is fine (but rubbish).
I've reset the sky box to default and the AVR. Sound is fine from smart TV and can only think that it's something to do with the ARC. Pass. No sky TV for now!

Re: Audio fading in and out with AVR
@Bluereason Have you checked the menus on the AVR to see if there is any kind of sound normalising settings that are on?

Re: Audio fading in and out with AVR
Hi - yes, not many options on the JBL and nothing out of the ordinary and sound from smart TV is perfect on all apps direct into the AVR via HDMI eARC. Gonna rip it all apart tomorrow and try with playstation 4 as a nother source and see if the weird sound applies to any other source that isn't the ARC from tele. Thanks for your input 🙂
