I think with today's technology it's very disappointing  it's annoying because it's handy having it all in one place

Re: Apple TV issues

I'm having the same issue. Seems like it's not supported on the sky version of the Apple TV app, which for me makes it useless. More and more I think I should be getting rid of my Sky subscription. This is an easy fix.

Re: Apple TV issues

Thank you for your reply it does seem ridiculous

I have been having a few different issues recently because the sky glass tv hasn't got a good enough picture quality which makes no sense,  so I sent it back and tried to change to the puck but they wanted to charge me when it's free to a new customer

also my broadband is £12 per month cheaper if you are a new customer I have been with sky 23 years it's the first time I have been disappointed

Re: Apple TV issues

Very frustrating. Based on my research, I'm going to buy an Apple TV 4K and use streaming platforms through that. That will be able to pass through the sound in the correct format (I also have a Denom atmos set up), plus it sounds like picture quality is slightly better when not using the Sky Q box (which is my case). All a bit annoying given how much Sky charge.

Re: Apple TV issues

It's definitely worth looking at

it will be interesting to see if sky monitors our conversations and learns from them

The Apple TV app has always only supported 2 channel audio as far as I can remember. Unfortunately it's Apple's decision not to support multichannel audio on the Sky platform.

It's always going to be a better option using a different platform because most of the Apple TV content is in Dolby Vision and Atmos. In fact, using any streaming app available on Sky Q is better on other platforms.

Sky's marketing has largely always highlighted the convenience of its services, as you say, of having it all in one place. This has been carried through from Q to Glass and Stream. They've never actually advertised it as being the best quality

Convenience is more appealing to most customers than quality, and Sky TV, being a mass market product, would struggle to make as much profit as they currently do if they also had to offer it on the best quality hardware with every frame rate, audio codec and HDR option known to humankind.

Re: Apple TV issues

I do appreciate that but sky already has that technology in place

Netflix and Disney has better sound and picture quality through sky so there is no reason why apple can't

but obviously it is an issue so the answer is to not have apple through sky

Not strictly true. Sky Q has never been capable of outputting Dolby Vision from any of its apps so those with a Dolby Vision capable TV miss out on the best quality.

Re: Apple TV issues

Sorry yes you are correct but I haven't been discussing Dolby Vision it's been more about apple only outputting in stereo when for example Disney can output Dolby Atmos through sky

so why can't  Apple

Because Apple is primarily a hardware manufacturer and would prefer people to buy its own shiny toys with their very nice profit margin?

Possibly because Apple sell their own streaming hardware (Apple TV 4K box) and would obviously prefer their content to be viewed in the best possible quality via that? Disney+ and Netflix are just streaming apps with no links to particular hardware.
