I have found out how to download the pdf , it's very awkward but I got there eventually, somebody had already posted that sky bills do not include VAT, but why don't they ?

UK law requires a vat receipt to be provided upon request, if the sale has been subject to Vat. It isn't up for debate .

Why would a consumer-only contract be used by a VAT registered customer?

It's not that I don't understand your point, but to save characters it is an irrelevant point. If Vat has been charged you have a right under UK law to request the evidence, you don't require a reason to request what you are entitled too 🙂

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more...my understanding is that right only exists for VAT registered customers.
If a 'business' is using a consumer contract then they are immediately in breach of said contract. Sky provide business contracts (and VAT invoices) for such customers.

So how does this work in the scenario of BYOD? If a company allows staff to use their own devices to recieve company emails and make calls, and then offer to pay a % towards the bill, would they not require a copy of the bill stating VAT?

The company is either paying expenses or a stipend. (Technically the member of staff cannot be making 'business' calls with a consumer-only contract - but it is common practice)

@WT1988 Doesn't matter if they do require a bill sttating the VAT, Sky will not supply one as all their mobile packages are for domestic use only.
