Upgrading my phone

I'm trying to upgrade my phone and I have stated that I will send my old one back as it's in perfect condition. I have been quoted £200 for it and there is £39 left on my contract. It then says that the difference of £161 will be added to my bill and cannot be paid off. Does this mean I am going to receive £161 or will have to pay £161?? Surely it shouldn't cost that much to upgrade so I am just a bit confused?

Hi @Clairey28  if the value is more than what's owed then the surplus is added to the account as credit and goes towards future bills.
