The Swap24 scheme is a 3 year contract. Basically you start a credit agreement for 3 years with an option to swap the device at 2 years.
If you don't swap then after paying for 3 years you own the device outright.
If you do swap then the trade in value of the device is assessed and this is used to pay off the remaining credit (1 year's worth) on the device. Hopefully, the value covers the outstanding credit - if it doesn't then you have to pay the difference - the condition of the device can affect its value. It's also possible the trade in is higher than the remaining credit (but not expected).
Then you effectively start a whole new contract again for a new device - there's no guarantee of 'free' nor that the monthly amount will remain the same. (This can obviously vary on the purchase price of the device at the time) You may also have to pay an upfront amount, depending on your credit assessment.
